About Me

G.D.C is one of the hottest new acts to hit the Irish circuit. Cillian Foster, the lead singer and guitarist was previously with Anima, Mark Cox a well known session drummer and Kayne Simons of Australian rock outfit Doubled. With three accomplished musicians joining forces it won’t be long before the dream becomes a reality.Cillian Foster, was with Anima for seven years playing at some of Irelands biggest venues such as Vicar Street, Whelans, The Sugar Club, Temple Bar Music Centre, The Civic Theatre, The Helix, Dolans (Limerick), The Cork Jazz Festival. During this time he enjoyed the company of some of Irelands most established and respected artists including The Fureys, Aslan, Don Baker, Picturehouse, John Spillane, Maurice Lennon, Finbar Furey, Mark Geary and Brendan O’Shea.Mark Cox, who is self taught, started pursuing his career at seventeen, taking part in a variety of projects, playing as a session drummer and in cover bands. They played rock, funk & blues with tracks by Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher in clubs including Voodoo Lounge, Whelans and Eamonn Dorans. Now at the top of his game, he frequently wows the audience with his charismatically energetic solos.Kayne Simons, the daddy of the group also started playing bass guitar at the age of seventeen as it was the last instrument left to play in a band with friends! Throughout school he jazz ensembles, allowing him to explore Australia. In 2000 after finishing his education he became part of the three piece Doubled. In 2004 they released their debut EP before arriving in Ireland to check out the music scene. It was here that Kayne met Cillian and Mark and soon GDC was born.Check out GDC’s first review from The Cherry Tree:Here is a great live band with Cillian Foster a former member of Anima and now the lead singer with G.D.C and Kayne Simmons on bass and Mark Cox on pot’s and pan’s. This is good act to catch live. On the night they kicked off with "Hold on" uplifting and great rhythm struts on the guitar very well held together in the backlines with Mark thumping the life out of the skins. Their next tune was "Everyone". This had a real pop element yet Cillian kept the tune more on the folk vibe with his relaxed tone in his voice. One tune they did really caught the attention of the audience was "Off my chest".It had a cool disco feel in the groove with some very tricky changes in the tune very good movement from the lads on the stage to this song. This is where the set got going. After a few more cracking tunes they finished off with the track they have featured on You tube called "Jazz". This is where Mark got a real piece of the drums big time. The rhythm guitar had a great spanish feel to it and Cillian held it together well with its tempo climbing and dropping to a soft melodic chant. Excellent stuff guys - Trevor Halpin - Music Reveiw.com - Gig in The Cherrytree.Since this review the lads have gone from strength to strength supporting the legendary Paddy Casey in Eamonn Dorans. They have taken part in club events at the Voodoo Lounge and The Boom Boom Room with many more dates to come. They have just completed their single "Off my Chest" which will feature in "The Potential Collection 2" produced by Jazz Finnegan of The Zodiac Sessions in Bruxelles, where the band are regulars.GDC are now finalists in the Irish Bodog Battle of The Bands which will take place in The Pod on January 20th.
