If you are keeping tabs on current hip hop trends, it is hard to deny that the biggest impact is coming from the Latin community. In recent years there has been an explosion of Latin artists, producers, and promoters in the hip hop scene. Leading that movement in the valley of the sun is none other than B-Staks. If that name does not sound familiar, just wait. B-Staks is getting ready to take over the valley with the release of his debut mixtape “RHYME MODE” in 2007.Staks was born and raised in one of the most Mexican influenced cities in the country, El Paso, TX. At an early age he fell in love with hip hop music and always knew he was deemed for greatness. Surrounded by a strong Latin culture, he was infused by the music, rhythm, and traditions of his ancestors. B-Staks started writing and taking his hip hop aspirations serious at the age of 19. After almost ten years of perfecting his skills and working on various projects, he is ready to branch out on his own and step into the limelight with his new project, “RHYME MODE”. B-Staks held nothing back on this mixtape and it is sure to be a hit as soon as it’s released. It has not always been an easy road to success for B-Staks. He started working on his debut solo album, ‘breakin’ the bank’, in early 2005 and was ready to get his name out there. In November of ’05 the studio he was recording at was broken into and all the equipment was stolen. Along with that, master copies of his recordings were stolen that could have been the end to a short lived career. However, B-Staks’ determination and passion would not let that keep him down. One day he had a vision; to unite the hottest Latin emcees in Phoenix, AZ and form an alliance. That dream came true shortly after with the creation of an emcee camp, SOL CAMP!!SOL CAMP is a group of Latino MC's in Phoenix working to put their city on the Hip Hop radar. The group members are Brian Staks, Mav, Chino D, Skunk One, and Sal, who were all doing things independently before joining talent. In less than a week, they compiled some hits and put out their first mix tape. With the release of the first mix tape, SOL CAMP created a major buzz in the Phoenix Hip Hop world and received much love from major radio stations Power 98.3 FM and Latino Vibe 95.5. SOL CAMP was requested to do several radio drops for the DJs, promotions for various events, and was later added to the rotation with their hit singles. With the fast as fire popularity, on May 5, 2006, SOL CAMP dropped their 2nd mix tape, "THE FUTURE NOW MIXTAPE VOL 2" and received rave reviews from various hip hop publications. SOUTHWESTHIPHOP.COM dubbed them as "Arizona's Terror Squad".With all the success of SOL CAMP, it only seemed fitting to once again pursue his childhood dream, his solo album. B-Staks has had the privilege of performing with some leaders in the hip hop industry and well respected emcees. Too Short, KRS-ONE, Lil’ Rob, Chingo Bling, and Mack 10 are only a handful of the acts that SOL CAMP has been on the bill with. That experience has allowed Staks to master his skills and record some of his best work yet. On his upcoming release you can expect to see a lot of versatility and monster features from some of the valleys hip hop heavyweights. Rest assured that the unique SOL CAMP sound will continue to pound through the speakers. If you were to ask B-Staks where his inspiration comes from, he would say “…..anybody that has become successful on their own. It takes a lot to get out there and make moves, most people expect hand outs.” One of his biggest hip hop inspirations would definitely have to be LL Cool J. “….being his age and still be respected as an emcee makes him a legend. He is still doing it the same way he started and is true to his roots.”As B-Staks begins another chapter in life-long journey, he will soon be joined by the biggest inspiration in his life, his daughter. With the birth of his daughter in early 2007, you can definitely expect a new fire to emerge from B-Staks. Family plays a huge role in his life and all of his experiences are resonated throughout his lyrics. One thing is for sure, we are about to experience the beginning of a long career; and some would even argue, the beginning of a LEGEND!!To pick up a copy of B-Staks upcoming release, you can visit Livin’ In Hip Hop, Nash’s Barber Shop, local record stores, and various tattoo parlors around the valley.
