Jake Palumbo: Your District Selectman
------------------------------------------------------------ -----------
Jake Palumbo has a tendency to rap about cough syrup, robot invasion, sex with pretty girls, being broke, wrestling and detailed descriptions of why you're stupid. His new album District Selectman is available on CD, iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody & more.
Jake Palumbo is a harmful by-product of the State of Tennessee, though he now resides in Brooklyn, NY. He was stuck by lightning while 8 months in utero (this is true). He was the bastard son of a mixed marriage, meaning his mama was a pound of weed, and his daddy was the adult section at Video Plaza. He learned how to read by the age of 3, and was already making you look slow by the time he was 4. Jake Palumbo is sort of like a rapping Frank Zappa on Robitussin - "The Busiest Unemployed Man In Showbusiness."
Growing up in the Wack Capitol of the world was both a blessing and a hindrance. Being light years away from the hotbeds of not only hip-hop culture, but the music business in general was an obstacle, but the slow pace and friendly vibe of the South gave Jake the chance to slow-cook a style all his own. While the other kids on the block were out trapping, Mr. Palumbo had a tendency to keep himself locked in his bedroom, beating on drum pads, creating strange melodies, listening to vinyl LP's as if there were hidden messages encoded, and laughing at shit only he seemed to think was funny.
In 2003, Mr. Palumbo realized that a job ain't nothing but work, so he founded SpaceLAB Recordings as a means of releasing his own music (since no other label was remotely interested). Now in its 6th year, SpaceLAB Recordings has moved thousands of records on it's own, beginning with Palumbo's debut album, Future Dead Rapper and releasing music from Jak D, C-Fourtune, Ollie OX and more. Last year, Jake released his sophomore project, the District Selectman LP, which he considers his best work to date and has out-sold the label's low expectations. SpaceLAB Recordings' mantra - "Too Abstract for the Hood, Too Hood for the Backpackers" - was coined when the label was unable to find a niche amongst fans of ring tone rap, and equally panned by elitist hipster scum.
Jake Palumbo has traded verses on countless tracks alongside his SpaceLAB friends & colleagues, and collaborated with respected hip-hop veterans such as Royce Da 5’9” and Reef the Lost Cauze. Also working as a producer and engineer in NYC on projects featuring Ne-Yo, Fabolous, J Records and many other projects large and small. A veteran of over 200 + live shows, Palumbo has developed a small cult following with his animated stage behavior, nervous tick, and willingness to put personal injury aside to entertain you. He has shared the stage with artists such as Young Buck, Afroman, Louis Logic, AWOL One, iCON the Mic King, Blueprint and more.
Stay tuned for the launch of www.jakepalumbo.com coming this summer. In the meantime, you can always find show dates, blogs & info at www.myspace.com/jakepalumbo or surf on over to our growing YouTube community at www.youtube.com/spacelabrecordings where you may browse live performance videos, freestyles and Jake Palumbo’s humorous Blunted Confessions video-blog series. SpaceLAB Recordings will release Jake Palumbo's third LP this fall.
Jake Palumbo and SpaceLAB Recordings are working on building a small empire, one fan at a time. We are pleased with the results up to this point.
