I was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. I also set numerous records. I disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight in 1937.
I was an influential early female pilot instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, a women's pilots' organization. Among my many awards and achievements, I was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross. Intense public fascination with my life, career and ultimate disappearance continues to this day.
