Bette O'Callaghan

Born with a title, I'm no lady.

About Me

Bette O’Callaghan exited the womb when they still printed bastard on birth certificates, born with a title, she’s no lady. She smokes like it’s her job and would never say no to a bottle of red or a double Jameson. Known for her wayward tales of a misbegotten life, her cynical turn of mind brings sharp wit to her poetry.
She has performed regularly at various poetry venues around London, the UK and the US. Her poems have been published in Rising, Ape Magazine, Rue Bella, Scene 360, Humdinger magazine and Velocity, the Best of Apples & Snakes. Her work is included on the inaugural spoken word CD, Saltpetre.
Bette appeared with Shortfuse at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002 and 2003.
David Lynch’s bitterer sister EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL, 2003
Spins hard tales of hard years, hard times and equally hard remedies. Writing that’s hard to put down. PAUL LYALLS, express excess, LONDON, ENGLAND
Hard livin', fast talkin' heavy drinkin', chain smokin' poetry NATHAN PENLINGTON, SHORTFUSE, LONDON ENGLAND
Bette O’Callaghan comes over as a superannuated rock chick, well past her sell by date but still showing glimpses of her former glamour and glory. Been there, done that, snorted it, jacked it up, sucked it off, fucked it up and still here to tell the tale. And what tales! A true grande dame in the Bette Davis mould. Writes and performs with great panache. BADEN PRINCE, SPEAKEASY, LONDON, ENGLAND

Friday, May 6 2005:Bette O'callaghan, Foul Geese; a beautifully toxic hour, Bette was backed up by the Foul Geese, emitting her corroded rock bitch wordage over the Foul Geese's low key paranoiac soundscapes. The Foul Geese are planning to release the hour soon, so look out for it. Bette has a great booklet called 'Dead Woman Walking'. JOHNY BROWN, MINING FOR GOLD, RESONANCE FM, LONDON, ENGLAND
