About Me

John Waters grew up in Eastern Queens, where he attended public school. He attended Bayside H.S., where his love for music led him to studying it in college. He recently earned his Bachelor of Music from the Hartt School of Music (Jackie McLean Insitute of Jazz) / University of Hartford. Wanting to get the most out of his education, John took courses that focused on the music business, as well as his jazz studies. While enrolled at Hartt, he met the great Jackie McLean and the McLean Family, Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Rick Rozie, Chris Casey, Irene Conley, and others. During his sophomore year, he had the opportunity of teaching private trumpet lessons at The Artists Collective (Jackie McLeans' real home) in Hartford, Connecticut. -+-+While enrolled in school, he took several music business related classes that focused in on both sides of the business (for-profit and non-profit). Having an awesome professor for his Non-Profit Business class, John was sike'd bout working in the non-profit side of the industry. In the summer of 2007, he interned at the Litchfield Jazz Camp, where on top of everyday playing and being a resident assistant in dorms, he was an administrative assistant in the camp jazz office. -+-+Being very fortunate, in his last couple weeks of school found a job at the Jazz Foundation of America, located in Midtown, Manhattan as an intern. The internship turned into a part/fulltime job. He enjoyed it alot, met a lot of people and was a huge help. -+-+ With his involvement with the NY-All City H.S. Concert Band/Marching Band, John has played at Lincoln Center, as well as Carnege Hall. Being only 12 years old, John Waters' reputation was known for being Queens' Bugle Boy. A young entrepreneur, John played "Taps" at local funeral homes and Veteran Day Holidays. During the winter season, John can be seen playing holiday tunes at the 47-50th St (F train) subway station as well as with the Salvation Army. He has performed in many jazz ensembles, and played in the horn section of the Landau Orchestra. John can be heard on: -"Janus Plays Telephone" -"Pans Labyrinth Reconstruction" (itunes only!!!) --The Landau Orchestra - Milan RecordsJohn has studied with Russ Johnson, Valery Ponomarev, Rene McLean, Rick Rozie, Chris Casey, Gabor Viragh, John Benza, Stuart Rubin, and Billy Kaye.John is pursuing his dream of trying to play in a brass band.
