Josh Evans Group

Josh grew up studying with John Chupas, Ray Williams, Jackie McLean, Darren Barrett, and Laurie Frink. He attended the Artist’s Collective and Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. By the age of 14 Josh was studying on a regular basis with Jackie McLean. This lead to Performances with McLean at venues such as the Blue Note (15 yrs. old), Iridium, Regattabar, and the Bushnell Theatre. While attending the Greater Hartford Academy of the Performing Arts High School, Josh was selected for the All-American Grammy High School Jazz Band, won the Wynton Kelly Award and an Outstanding Soloist Award from Down Beat magazine. After high school, he moved to New York to continue his education. He was selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program, and was a semi-finalist in the 2007 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competion. At only 23 years of age Josh has performed as a Member of the Jackie Mclean/Cedar Walton Quintet, Rashied Ali quintet, Benny Golson Quintet, Mickey Bass Group, Winard Harper Sextet, Ralph Peterson Unity Project, Steve Davis Quintet/Sextet, Rene Mclean Quintet, Paul Brown Groups, Jimmy Greene Quartet, New Jazz Workshop and the Valery Ponomarev Big Band.
