Raymond McMorrin

Raymond McMorrin was born March 13th, 1979 in Norwalk, Connecticut.  At the age of 11 he began studying the tenor saxophone in junior high school. In 1997 he went on to study jazz at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the instruction of saxophonist-Ron Kerber. In 1999 Raymond transferred to the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. There he the opportunity to study and play with Dr. McLean, trombonist-Steve Davis, bassist-Nat Reeves, and saxophonist-Kris Jensen.  It was during that time that Dr. McLean gave Raymond McMorrin the nickname RayMack.  
In December of 2002 Raymond was invited to play at the Charlie Parker Jazz festival hosted at Birdland in New York City. There he had the opportunity to play with Musicians such as, saxophonists-Jimmy Greene and Craig Handy.
In April of 2004 Raymond played in the band of pianist-Horace Silver for a week at the Blue Note in New York City. This band included trombonists-Steve Davis and Conrad Herwig, saxophonist-Eric Alexander, trumpeter-Mike Mossman, drummer-Joe Farnsworth, and bassist-John Webber. In Aug of 2005 Raymond made a big move to Japan and is now involved in the Tokyo Jazz scene. He performs with musicians such as; drummer-Masahiko Osaka, bassist- Yosuke Inoue, drummer-Umino Shunsuke, pianist-Joe Kamachi, drummer-Tommy Campbell, Pianist-Yoshizawa Hajime, guitarist-Onuma Yosuke, pianist-Unno Tadataka, drummer-Koichi Inoue, vocalist-Tiffany and many others. In July of 2006 he had the opportunity to record with Tiffany on her debut Cd ..The nearness of You.., which included drummer-Jimmie Smith. In Aug of 2006 Raymond recorded another CD with Tiffany "My Favorite Things" and had the opportunity to record with pianist-Hank Jones. Some of Raymond..s biggest influences Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson mixed with his own sound gives him a very unique style, reminiscent of the past but yet modern and progressive.    レイモンド・マクモーリン 1979å¹´3月13æ—¥ç”Ÿã¾ã‚Œã€ç±³å›½ã€€ã‚³ãƒãƒã‚«ãƒƒãƒˆå·žå‡ ºèº«ã€‚ 11歳からテナーサックスを始め、主にニュー㠃¨ãƒ¼ã‚¯ã€ã‚³ãƒãƒã‚«ãƒƒãƒˆã‚’拠点に活動。 1997å¹´ã«ãƒšãƒ³ã‚·ãƒ«ãƒãƒ‹ã‚¢å·žãƒ•ã‚£ãƒ©ãƒ‡ãƒ«ãƒ•ã‚£ã‚¢èŠ ¸è¡“大学ジャズ科に入学、サックス奏者ロンム»ã‚«ãƒ¼ãƒãƒ¼ã«å¸«äº‹ã™ã‚‹ã€‚ 1999å¹´ã«ã¯ã‚³ãƒãƒã‚«ãƒƒãƒˆå·žãƒãƒ¼ãƒˆãƒ•ã‚©ãƒ¼ãƒ‰å¤§å­ ¦ã«è»¢æ ¡ã—、アルトサックス奏者ジャッキーム»ãƒžã‚¯ãƒªãƒ¼ãƒ³ãŒè¨­ç«‹ã—たジャズ専攻科にてジム£ãƒƒã‚­ãƒ¼ãƒ»ãƒžã‚¯ãƒªãƒ¼ãƒ³ã¨å‡ºä¼šã„、師弟関係とだªã‚‹ã€‚この間彼との演奏がたびたび増え、ハム¼ãƒˆãƒ•ã‚©ãƒ¼ãƒ‰å¸‚å‘¨è¾ºã§ã®ã‚¸ãƒ£ã‚ºã‚¯ãƒ©ãƒ–ã§ã®æ´»å‹ •ãŒæœ¬æ ¼åŒ–。トロンボーニスト、スティーブム»ãƒ‡ã‚¤ãƒ´ã‚£ã‚¹ã‚„ベーシストのナット・リーヴ゠¹ãªã©ã¨å…±ã«æ¼”奏するようになる。この頃にJM ack(ジェイマック)と呼ばれていたジャッキー㠃»ãƒžã‚¯ãƒªãƒ¼ãƒ³ã«ã€Œä¿ºãŒã‚¸ã‚§ã‚¤ãƒžãƒƒã‚¯ãªã‚‰ãŠå‰ã ¯ãƒ¬ã‚¤ãƒžãƒƒã‚¯ã ã€‚ã€ã¨å¸«åŒ ã«ãƒ‹ãƒƒã‚¯ãƒãƒ¼ãƒ ã‚’å ã¥ã‘られる。 2002å¹´12月にニューヨークのバードランドにて チャーリー・パーカートリビュートライブメ ンバーとして参加。サックス奏者のジミー・ グリーン、クレイグ・ハンディーらと演奏。 2004å¹´4月にはニューヨークのブルーノートに㠁¦ãƒ”アニストのホレス・シルバーのライブメ㠃³ãƒãƒ¼ã¨ã—て公演をする。サックス奏者のエ㠃ªãƒƒã‚¯ãƒ»ã‚¢ãƒ¬ã‚¯ã‚µãƒ³ãƒ€ãƒ¼ã€ãƒˆãƒ©ãƒ³ãƒšãƒƒã‚¿ãƒ¼ã®ã ƒžã‚¤ã‚¯ãƒ»ãƒ¢ã‚¹ãƒžãƒ³ã€ãƒˆãƒ­ãƒ³ãƒœãƒ¼ãƒ‹ã‚¹ãƒˆã®ã‚³ãƒ³ã ƒ©ãƒƒãƒ‰ãƒ»ãƒãƒ¼ã‚¦ã‚£ã‚°ã€ãƒ‰ãƒ©ãƒžãƒ¼ã®ã‚¸ãƒ§ãƒ¼ãƒ»ãƒ•ã ‚¡ãƒ¼ãƒ³ã‚¹ãƒ¯ãƒ¼ã‚¹ã¨æ¼”奏。 2005年に来日。活動の拠点を東京に移す。 以降、井上功一、井上洋介、海野俊輔、海野 雅威、大坂昌彦、小沼ようすけ、ジョー蒲池 、吉澤はじめ、ジミー・スミス、ティファニ ー、トミー・キャンベルらと共演する。 ソニー・ロリンズやジョン・コルトレイン、 ジョー・ヘンダーソンを彷彿とさせる音色を 持ちながら前衛的な顔もあわせ持つ。ジャズ テナーサックスのトラディショナルとモダン が融合したユニークともいえるスタイルは一 度聞く価値があるだろう。
