For almost 20 years the Jazz Foundation has been a major source of support for thousands of elderly jazz and blues musicians, who after a lifetime of paying their dues, are not able to pay their rent. The organization serves artists who dedicated a lifetime to the music and received little in return. Hundreds of musicians each year, the very people who played and recorded with Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Ray Charles, James Brown, Charlie Parker and more, are being saved from homelessness, eviction and medical crisis every day. By providing dignified meaningful employment and introducing jazz to thousands of public schoolchildren, the Jazz Foundation gives them back their purpose and their independence.-
