The Tunnel One radio program features vintage Jamaican music from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, & 1980s, including ska, rocksteady, early reggae, and dub, as well as pre-independence Jamaican music, including mento, pocomania, jonkanno, and folks/roots music. Tunnel One also features dancehall music from the late 1970s - early 1980s (considered to be the golden age of Jamaican dancehall music, and which birthed todays hip hop/rap music). Weekly broadcasts are strictly programmed within specific genres/sub-genres, and delve deeply into specific styles/producers/record labels, bringing listeners through a time warp into early Jamaican dancehall/soundsystem dances.
Tunnel One's emphasis is analog, classic, and rare Jamaican music. Tunnel One is the only weekly ska/rocksteady/early reggae radio show in the New York City metro area, and is on every Tuesday from 9:00pm to 10:30pm Eastern Standard Time on WNYU, 89.1fm New York City, or on-line at http://www.wnyu.org .
