About Me

Bob has been a part of the Australian music scene for (says he) more years than he cares to remember. Beginning with his first band in 1969 at the age of 12, inspired by Australian bands such as The Master's Apprentices, Company Caine, Kharvas Jute, & The Band Of Light, & by English bands such as Free & The Who, he began his musical journey. Bob joined Sydney rock outfit Finch in 1972, and quickly established himself as a talented guitarist in a much admired band. Finch won the Pepsi Battle Of The Bands in 1974.1977 saw Bob joining The Skyhooks, much to the chagrin of a certain Bon Scott, whose last words to Bob were ones of consternation & disappointment over his choice! Skyhooks provided a massive learning experience for young Bob, who, although having earned a reputation as a guitar-slinger by then, benefitted greatly from the wealth of knowledge afforded by the Skyhooks camp. Several albums later, in 1980, Skyhooks folded, whereupon Bob flirted with session playing & the occasional tour with mates. Around this time began Bob's involvement with audio engineering & production, a passion which remains today. The Angels found themselves in need of a guitarist in 1985, & Bob stepped in to what he thought would be merely an interim involvement, but which turned into more than a seven years association. His time with them produced three studio albums, including the band's first & only Number 1 album (Beyond Salvation) a string of singles, a double live album, many tours & much time spent living in America. Quite early in the piece, Bob became one of the band's two major songwriters.Since leaving The Angels in the 90's, Bob has pursued his long standing interests in other musical genres (most notably African & Jazz). All Bob's albums with The Skyhooks & The Angels have been certified either Platinum or Gold, & in 1998 Bob was presented with a ARIA Lifetime Achievement Award & inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.He divides his time between being the Melbourne Coach for "The Weekend Warriors" (a program designed to help baby-boomers get back into playing music for fun), being a guitar tutor & band coach, giving Masterclasses & Clinics, running a mastering & recording studio, writing a guitar book & recording & producing other artists.Though he wouldn't mind more time to practice.Bob is currently recording his first ever solo album, an album of groove based original music.
