I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

The Tallahassee area is a vastly underrated hotbed for music of all kinds. A college town will always have a good rock scene with a lot of bars and clubs featuring bands that play ORIGINAL music. Top rated music schools fill the area with formally trained classical and jazz musicians. And of course, this is the South, which means true-blue American roots music- country, bluegrass, blues, and even zydeco. Oh yeah, and we even have R&B, rap, Chinese, Indian, Irish, electronica, experimental, etc.
outloud is a program produced by WFSU-TV that highlights all of this music. All genres, or as many as we have the resources to make shows for. All of the acts are from North Florida and South Georgia. In this upcoming season, you can see some traditional bluegrass and old country as well an acoustic group that that mixes the traditional music with bluegrass Velvet Underground (and Stooges, and samba Patsy Cline) covers. There will be a 17 year old blues guitar prodigy and dose of ancient Chinese music. Oh yeah, and there will be a good amount of rock music too!
Not everyone out in TV land will like every act on the show. We try to have something for everyone. One episode might have an old favorite for one person, something new and exciting for someone else, and possibly something totally atrocious for a third person. That's the price you pay for having variety. All we ask is that you listen with an open mind, and if for some reason there is nothing at all that you like- let us know! outloud is, after all, your show.
Check this page or our official site (wfsu.org/outloud) for a schedule and additional information about each group.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Musicians and music fans. Especially those in North Florida/ South Georgia.

If you are a musician, and you want to appear on our show, there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind.

1. Let us know you are interested and give us a sample of your music. If you have some recordings on your myspace profile, that will do but if you want to send a CD and/or any press materials (not required, but helpful), you can send them to:

outloud producer 1600 Red Barber Plaza Tallahassee, FL 32310

2. We are currently (Fall '07) not in production. We will likely be taping new episodes in the Spring of 2008. Anyone expressing interest in the program will be considered for the next taping cycle.

3. We get more submissions than we have available slots to shoot. We try to select a good variety of genres, and a good mix of well established and up and coming groups. And with limited episodes airing across the Panhandle on WFSU-TV, we will be looking for groups from different areas in our region. We will give all submissions equal consideration as we try to achieve this variety.

Music:

African Caribbean, Blues, Chinese traditional, Funk, Hip-Hop, Indian Classical, Indie, Irish folk, Jazz, Rock, Tango, Zydeco- we like all music as long as the people making it are truly putting themselves into it.

Television:

Is mostly garbage. But if you're going to watch it, might as well watch something worthwhile. There are still some of us who care enough to bring you some local culture, something relevant to our community. Hopefully we have some music on the show that speaks to you. If not, let us know! We want to have music that means something to the people in our viewing area.

Currently, you can catch our show on:

4fsu (Comcast channel 4 in Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties)

Mondays @ 9:00 PM
Wednesdays @ 7:00 PM
Fridays @ 10:00 PM

We will also be airing outloud on WFSU-TV/DT in Tallahassee and WFSG-TV/DT in Panama City on every 5th Wednesday at 7:30 PM/ 6:30 Central.
