About Me

KRANK ON OVER TO
CANDYHAMMER DOT COM FOR ALL THINGS HI- AND LO-...(clikk)...... (clikk image)
candyhammer is a label based in Burlington VT.
we consist of two distinct departments-- lo-fi & hi-fi -- both with nearly entirely different identities and ideologies.
We publish home, live, and studio recordings on CD.
LO-FI overview: Our goal is to co-establish, inhabit, and perpetuate a network of independent producers, performers, and publishers, related thru ongoing SNAIL MAIL and HAND-TO-HAND connections for trading music, merch, and art-- as well as live performances and all manner of cross- promotions.
We prefer the term "lo-fi" over "DIY"-- esteeming the term DIY as better suited for projects crafted not just within informal contexts, but with the use of unconventionally simplified methods, and, more importantly, with
near-universal spontaneity.
We would bother to note that conventional songwriting and professional studio recording processes contribute much of our material, therefore preventing us from wearing the DIY badge in good conscience.
HI-FI overview: All recording and programming is undergone by software-based programs and processes, and the releases are digitally mastered and pressed in shrink-wrapped, transparent jewel cases with bar codes.candyhammer's hi-fi releases are also submitted to publications for review, and sold online in mp3 format as well as in hard-copy format at CD vendors, whereas our lo-fi releases are only available online or at shows.

REVIEWS:
CANNIBALPLANET -
"Your sound is weird and definitely crazy; like a circle, it's spinning away. Are you a young crazy scientist, mixing away différent wavelengths inna high tech laboratory? Or maybe U're just tripping !!!! Good trip, actually. i like, it kik's ass !!!! it's like an électroshock psychothérapy !!!!"
- Pascal XW, X Weapon
Yellow Squares -
"Indeed this CD may be about lamb chops. It may be about food,
for that matter. There are songs on here about olives and melons.
But you know what? This CD is fucking great! Yellow Squares may very
well be one of the most underknown, underappreciated, underused bands
to date!
To fully understand just how this CD sounds, you have to hear it.
But trust me, it's worth the listen. It's kind of got a comedy feel
to it, for the fans of Tenacious D, Adam Sandler and They Might Be
Giants, but then it's also got its own kind of twist to things.
Let's just put it this way: After you hear this CD once (and you will),
you will want to hear it again. You'll be left thinking "What the fuck??!?"
at first, but it will leave you wanting to hear it again if for no other
reason than to laugh at the comedy of it.
Plain and simple- one of the most brilliant CDs of this day and age.
Why? Do you think this CD is stupid? Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. But
it surely is funny. It surely entertains. It surely does something to
you that no other CD can do. It's challenging. It's innovative. And
most importantly, no matter how silly or however else you'd like to
label it, it simply does not suck."

transformers for girls -
"This CD is interesting. I didn't know quite what to expect at first, but after hearing it, I'm rather impressed. In simplest terms, Transformers for Girls sound like old school Nirvana, something along the lines of a Sub Pop band. They have rock that is pretty much led by bass lines. I like it. And the lyrics are also funny at times, while at other times heartfelt. This is a good listen for those of us who have had enough of everything else that sounds the same.Definitely not what I expected, but definitely kick ass."

Sounds Like: LO-FI:
candyhammer lo-fi doesn't release CD's in jewel cases. We use the NEXPAK technology, not unlike the ultra-slim plastic cases in which your TV on DVD volumes are often snugly packaged. The case is clear, revealing 2 additional panels of artwork upon opening.

We have opted for this unique format in order to allow for a broader range of options in a CD layout: most utilize the whole rectangle, for a cover that either displays when the case is turned on its side-- like widescreen presentation on a plasma TV screen--

or stand up like a giant cassette cover:

In each case, it is more than twice the size of traditional CD artwork.

Our aim in publishing with this format is to provide bolder, bigger, more detailed art to accompany the music.

HI-FI:
candyhammer hi-fi does release CD's in transparent jewel cases with double panel j-cards, shrink-wrap, bar code, GPS chip, and detonator wired to the candyhammer mainframe for self-destruct.
