Big Heavy World

About Me

Big Heavy World has been pulling together compilations of Vermont artists since 1996 with the release of Sonic Tonic, the indie-alt-core battle cry of our veteran scene-pimping phalanx. We've plowed lovingly through more than a dozen titles and continue to unite regional musicians within projects that ultimately, we hope, bring recognition to Vermont's deserving music community and maybe make the world a better place in the process.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Big Heavy World has been blessed to be surrounded by people who recognize that bringing a community together is a beautiful thing and who have supported our work with sweat and generous spirit. We are hardly worthy of experiencing the wealth of friendship to be found among Vermont's musicians and if we're able to pass any of it on to the friends we haven't met yet, we are glad.
Here's a couple items relating to Big Heavy World's Vermont Music Library - maybe they're of interest - we hope to see you at both! :)
Meanwhile, if you haven't stopped by the office at 215 College Street in Burlington, come introduce yourself and take the tour! We cover a lot of ground in our work to preserve and promote Vermont-made music and would love the chance to show you what we're up to.
1) ARCHIVE BUILDING CLEAN-UP DAY
You might know we've been given a 100-year-old general store building in Starksboro to restore as our climate-controlled archive space for the Vermont music we've collected. The repairs begin May 11, and to get ready this coming Saturday April 28 we're finishing a clean-up that started last Fall. Come join us! The volunteer crew is gathering at 9AM, 3165 VT Route 116, just North of the Starksboro village center which is ten minutes South of Hinesburg as you head toward Bristol. Bring work gloves and tools for yard work like rakes or pruning shears and beverages for yourself, and help us make the place look presentable! See http://www.vmls.org/restoration/ for pictures of it, and here's a map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=3165+vermont +route+116+starksboro+vt&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn =38.502405,67.939453&layer=&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=1 1&ll=44.230441,-73.053589&spn=0.272573,0.530777
2) 'IN SILVER LIGHT' CD RELEASE PARTY
Our latest Vermont-artist compilation CD is called 'In Silver Light' and has been doing fantastic even before its release party - come see some amazing musicians on Friday, May 25 and grab one of the last 100 copies available! Here's the official info:
May 25 at the FlynnSpace, Burlington featuring Spencer Lewis, Native Daughters (Deb Flanders & Michele Choiniere), Paul Webb, Aaron Flinn's Salad Days, The Cush, Karen McFeeters, Social Band, Lar Duggan, Kris Gruen, James O'Halloran (and more!) 7pm, $17.00, Student/Senior $14
'In Silver Light' is a breathtaking sampler of Vermont's singer-songwriting and instrumental music. Join the artists for a panoramic performance celebrating the release of this critically acclaimed CD and the Vermont Music Library's work to preserve the state's contemporary musical heritage.
