POOH - Italian band

Back in 1966, I Pooh, one of the historic groups on the Italian rock scene, published their first single. The group was, at that time, made up of Mario Goretti and Mauro Zini Bertoli on guitars, Gilberto Faggioli on bass, Bob Gillot on keyboards, and Valerio Negrini on drums: all five of them shared vocals and chorus, producing an unmistakable style that is still heard in todays recordings of the group. The group started off with cover versions like “Vieni fuori”(‘Keep on running’ by the Spencer Davis Group) or “Quello che non sai” (‘Rag Doll’ by The Four Seasons). They also produced many well-written and appealing original pieces like “Brennero ‘66” (presented at the Festival delle Rose in 1966 with Roby Crispiano), “Bikini Beat” and “In silenzio”. In the meantime Gilberto Faggioli left the group and was substituted by Riccardo Fogli, who was to be a teenage idol for many years to come. With “Piccola Katy” in 1968, the group was launched on an unstoppable rise to popularity that brought them remarkable results and sales of thousands of copies. They moved away from their original beat sound, creating a very individual, elegant pop style. At the end of the Sixties, a shake-up led to the entry of Red Canzian, Roby Facchinetti, Dodi Battaglia and lastly Stefano D’Orazio who have remained as the stable line-up of the group today. I Pooh have been running up extraordinary successes for forty years and have also recorded songs for various foreign markets in English and Spanish.
..Nel lontano 1966 vede la luce il primo singolo di una delle formazioni storiche del rock Italiano: I Pooh! La formazione vedeva Mario Goretti e Mauro Zini Bertole alle chitarre, Gilberto Faggioli al basso, Bob Gillot alle tastiere, e Valerio Negrini alla batteria; tutti e cinque si cimentano anche alle voci e a cori, dando vita ad uno stile inconfondibile, ancora oggi rintracciabile nelle incisioni del gruppo. Gli inizi vedono il gruppo cimentarsi in cover come “Vieni fuori” (“Keep on running” dello Spencer Davis Group) o “Quello che non sai” (“Rag Doll” dei Four Seasons). Molti sono anche I brani originali non privi di un certo fascino e di spessore compositivo come “Brennero ‘66” (presentato al Festival delle Rose del 1966 in coppia con Roby Crispiano), “Bikini Beat” o “In silenzio”. Nelfrattempo, uscito Gilberto Faggioli, entra in formazione un certo Riccardo Fogli, idolo delle teen-agers per molti anni a venire. Comincia, dal 1968 con “Piccola Katy”, l’ascesa senza ostacoli che portera’ il gruppo a notevoli risultati di vendita con miglaia di copie vendute. Si allontanano intanto dal Beat originale per dare vita ad un pop personalissimo di fattura elegante. Il rimpasto della formazione portera’ alla fine degli anni ’60 all’ingresso di Red Canzian, di Roby Facchinetti, di Dodo Battaglia e infine di Stefano D’Orazio, stabilizzando la formazione a quella attuale. Da oltre trent’anni I Pooh mietono ancora straordinari successi, realizzando incisioni in diversi lingue come inglese o spagnolo per I vari mercati esteri.
