About Me

About Us:
This site is to provide friends of those who cut, parents/guardians, teachers, youth leaders with information on the overwhelming epidemic among so many adolesences and even adults....cutting (self injury). Here you will find out what cutting is, why people cut, signs to watch out for in people you think might be cutting, how you can help and even real life testimonals of people who have struggled with this problem. What is cutting? Cutting is also known as self injury. Among teens today "cutting" is the common term that means to use something sharp to cause tissue damage, but is not limited to breaking the skin. It can also come in forms such as bruising, burning or leaving marks that last for more than an hour. Why do people cut? Most look to cutting as a way of dealing with unpleasant or overwhelming emotions or situations. Usually they have not learned ways to deal with coping with these feelings. In many cases, cutting may be a result of physical, sexual, emotional abuse or a traumatic event that happened in childhood. Cutting IS NOT trying to kill yourself. It is an addiction. When one cuts, it actually releases natural beta endorphins that make you feel good (the brain's natural morphine). They attain a "high" and later crave to experience it again. Most importantly, this site is here to let "cutters" know they are not alone, and that there is hope.
