Following in his late father's footsteps, William also began his career as an actor, appearing on such TV shows as "Remington Steele," "Knight Rider" and "The Fall Guy." Winckler also wrote and produced two syndicated television series: the animated sci-fi adventure "Tekkaman the Space Knight" and the live-action comedy program "Short Ribbs," starring Billy Barty.In 2001, William formed his own production company, William Winckler Productions, patterned in part after American International Pictures (AIP) -- a successful 1950s/1960s low-budget production house -- to write, produce, direct and act in his own cult films. His first venture was "The Double-D Avenger," a comedy reuniting three famous Russ Meyer actresses: Kitten Natividad, Haji and Raven De La Croix. The film received copious kudos, including a review in Variety hailing the picture as "a cheerfully silly ode to larger-than-life femininity."
