Mal steps up to the microphone with the unique, experienced and articulate voice that hip-hop has been waiting for. A complex, dynamic and original lyricist, performer and individual, Mal is taking off in New York City and luckily for us, he won’t stop.
Mal was born in New York City in the early stages of the hip-hop era. His father used to take him to the park to hear MC’s and watch B-boys not knowing that he had planted a seed that would eventually become the driving force in Mal's life. As an only child with a mother that pushed his nose in books instead of allowing him to waste away in front of the television, Mal’s early artistic life was nurtured as he performed in plays, wrote, and became an avid storyteller. Mal’s neighbor and childhood friend, the late Fox Fame, encouraged Mal at an early age to let his voice be heard. With Fame’s passing in 2004, Mal promised himself that he would finish what Fame had started.
Upon moving to Bermuda in 1995, Mal met a fellow MC, ProfAC. Together they committed themselves to maintaining a high level of excellence and originality in the music they created. It was at this time when Landmind Hip-Hop was formed. Mal spent more time freestyling in the music room with fellow Landmind member Luka than he did attending classes. Years later and wiser from their experience, Mal and ProfAC reunited back in NY and the dream they both shared seemed within reach.
What sets Mal apart is his courage to step away from the crowd and speak up, spit his truth out, even if the truth doesn’t paint a pretty picture. His lyrics are raw and introspective combined with a first class delivery that makes listeners rewind again and again to make sure they caught all the words.
Mal rejoined ProfAC in New York and they are working hard to expand the empire they created. Currently performing live in New York, Mal is also hard at work recording his debut album. He is currently unsigned......but not for long.
