About Me

Our son, Porter Jackson Earle, was born December 22, 2006. At one day old Porter started having trouble breathing. By two days old he was shipped to Fletcher Allen where he was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. That evening he was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Boston, and that was where we spent our first Christmas as a family. Porter had his first surgery at one week old to try and repair his heart. After the surgery he was put on life support, ECMO. By two weeks old he had to have a second surgery to repair a leaky valve and narrowed aorta. Before he was three weeks old it had been determined that his heart would not function properly and that he needed a heart transplant and on Jan 11th he received a heart transplant. On April 17th he developed a blood clot in his innominate vien and although he survived the acute event, the damage done to his lungs proved to be too much to overcome. On May 6th, 2007 Porter became an angel while mommy and daddy held him one last time. Life was never easy for Porter but he never let it keep him down. He had a spirit no pain could touch, a look in his eyes that showed just how wise beyond his months he was, and above all else, he fought just as hard as his little body could until the very end. He was so many things to so many people, he touched every person he met and every person who read his story. To me, he was not just anyone, he was my son. He is my hero. He is my everything.
