My very favorite painting, "Gabrielle D'Estrees, et Une de ses Soeurs", by L'Ecole de Fountainbleau. It hangs in the Louevre, and is a portrait of the french king's pregnant mistress and her sister, who is checking to see if she is lactating. Gabrielle holds the king's coronation ring in her hand, as if it were a trinket she swiped from his bedside table and flaunts before the queen.
