About Me

Celebrating EveryBODY!!!
After a ten year battle with various eating disorders, Johanna Kandel founded The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness (in October of 2000) as a means to give back to others. The Alliance was created as a source of community outreach, education, awareness, and prevention of the many eating disorders currently plaguing our nation. Eating disorders currently affect upwards of 24 million Americans. Our aim is to share the message that recovery from these disorders is possible, and that individuals should not have to suffer or recover alone. We seek to educate individuals, particularly the youth, about the dangers of this epidemic, and to reduce the rate and severity of eating disorders among all ages of Americans.
Since our inception, we have presented free eating disorder prevention/education seminars and workshops for more than 60,000 middle school, high school, and college students throughout the state of Florida and nationwide. The organization has helped thousands of individuals and their families nationally acquire information about eating disorders and treatments that are available and advocated for eating disorder legislation on a local, state and national level.

Over 350 people attended the event which raised awareness and acceptance of people of shapes and sizes as a kick off for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. This event truly celebrated EveryBODY!!!
