Progressive rock music for a new generation...

About Me

Rory Ridley-Duff started musical life as the keyboard player in the English progressive rock band Protos . Recently, he also became a solo artist after releasing Passing Decades and A Question of Expression (available from iTunes music store). In 2006, he formed a music publishing company New Horizons Music with Steve Anscombe (guitarist in the band Protos) to start new musical collaborations and projects. The first of these new projects, The Noble Pauper's Grave is now available from CD Baby.Rory formed Protos with Steve while at Chichester High School for Boys. After enroling on a Jazz/Popular music course at the Chichester College of Arts and Technology, Rory/Steve recruited Iain Carnegie (Percussion/Keyboards) and Nigel Rippon (Bass Guitar). The band's first album One Day a New Horizon , recorded in 1982, is one of the rarest independent recordings in the world. It currently fetches between GBP 200-400 at auction. Due to its enduring success, Protos have now re-issued the album on CD and released a second album Into the Mouth of the Tiger of their live gigs between 1982-1984. A new studio album called The Noble Pauper's Grave tells the story of a man born to priviledge who rejects his upbringing to rally and champion the poor. While studying music, Rory, Nigel and Iain also teamed up with Simon Cartwright to form "Sly", a tongue-in-cheek tribute to "Sky" (John Williams). They played a one off Cathedral Green concert during the Chichester Arts Festival in 1983. After this, Rory went to London University, specialising in composition and arrangement, started to compose on his own while performing with Danzante, an instrumental jazz/rock band.
