Heavy Metal Combat Heavy Metal Combat is a comedy/combat performance group based in Kansas that entertains at public and private venues throughout the mid-west.
In 1999 Anthony Shurtz, aka the group’s ‘Sir Francis O’Brien,’ and co-founder of HMC, helped organize the group as an outlet for his unique blend of violence and humor. Heavy Metal Combat's standard show includes three Knights in full plate-mail armour and two lighter armoured squires performing FULL contact, un-choreographed Renaissance/Medieval/Pro-Wrestling combat with traditional and unconventional weaponry. There are times when HMC can and does field more Knights and squires if the want or need arises.
All of the armour is made directly by the performers themselves. Each suit is as individual as the man inside it. By researching, designing and constructing their own armour, each knight can answer patrons' inevitable questions of armour construction, as well as, some history of knights and armour. Each performer can also make the necessary armour repairs between performances.
Heavy Metal Combat performs comedy and full contact medieval combat together because anyone who has watched the classic entertainment of Charlie Chaplin or Tom & Jerry, the Three Stooges or Jackie Chan knows that violence is funny! HMC is simply continuing a long standing American tradition in our own unique way. Whether our knights are swinging an axe or a sword, an aluminum baseball bat or a frying pan, a metal step ladder or any number of other historical or "magical" weapons, the entertainment of the crowd is always at the forefront of our performance.
