About Me

Thanks for visiting my myspace site, i hope you enjoy the music ive put up here and feel free to leave feedback and comments.
My name is Andrew Foster I’m a solo singer songwriter and have been doing the circuit supporting artists such as,
Hard Fi,
John Power,
Amy Wadge,
Kate Walsh,
Polly Paulusma,
Tom Hingley
MERZ
I have been involved in music since my teens playing locally with my band at the time Paradime from which I was a songwriter and lead singer. This band took me to Germany for a small club circuit tour and reletive success locally.
When the band broke I went to study Music Tech in London and this is where my song writing started to develop into a necessity to me. Having access to the studios at Uni and building my own studio set-up at home I wrote many songs, and recorded regularly.
I gained a vast musical knowledge from all the different influences that were round me. I started listening to all kinds of music pulling away from the obvious influences that were around at the time. I started experimenting with different tunings and playing styles and singing dynamics.
After learning these techniques from artists such as Neil Young, Nick Drake, Ryan Adams, and Neil Finn, the acoustic avenue was opened up. I also learned how to use my voice to its full, learning different techniques and genres. I write obviously what comes to me and sometimes this can end up being quite eclectic.
The thing is I still have a very strong foot in pop, and melody is something I hold very dear. The British guitar movement/ grunge in the 90s made me pick up a guitar and now my head feels as though it’s an open book to all kinds styles and genres. Working as a recording engineer has also opened my mind to all different sounds. In fact I find it hard to not find something good in most music, unless it sounds contrived to me.
Someone armed with an acoustic guitar can be a powerful thing, and some of the most touching musical moments come from the acoustic. Simple songs, stories, laid bare for all to see.

"The Alchemist" is a standout track...Feb 2008
