Don't just Question Authority, Question Everything

About Me

Symphony in SlangTo see some of my concert photography check out my Yahoo Briefcase the address is: http://photos.yahoo.com/durang095 Sheesh, where to start. Well I live in NYC, which at one time was a great place to live, but has now in the almost 20 years I've lived here become a minisuburbia in and of itself, where once people came here to experience the different, the odd and the unusual that they could never see back where they had come from....the city has now become just like the places they've left to come visit. Times Square is a joke in and of itself now, where once there was porno shops there is now a McDOnald's.....the only time parts of the old Times Square rears its head, is when they try to open an arcade there....after a while, people start getting into fights or shot at, or knifed...woohooo, violence at a video arcade, who knew. I'm also lucky to have the best girlfriend, she's been a rock for me in bad times. Anyways, as long as CBGB still stands (which unfortunately might not be too much longer), I will continue to live here. I host a public access show here in Manhattan, it comes on at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday Night/Monday Morning on Channel 57. No it's not Wayne's World. The show did start out as a way to give artists, musicians, bands, etc a platform to showcase what they do, but it has also now morphed into my 30 minute a week tirade about what's fucked up in this country, who's pissed me off, and movie, music and book reviews. In addition, I also do concert photography and no I'm not one of those pansy asses who gets to be on the other side of the railing taking pics... I'm on the side of the railing with everyone else, trying to take pics as bodies fly over my head and people try to force their way to the frontline. I've gotten pretty good at doing it, I don't get paid for it. If you want to know more about me, you'll have to drop me a line. If you want to see my show and you're not in NYC, you can view it over the web at MNN.org. Once on the home page, scroll down to the the tv that says channel 57, at the time my show is on, and it will provide a simulcast stream.

What Classic Movie Are You?
personality tests by similarminds.com Some people have wanted to know how I came about doing a public access show. I remember once Andy Shernoff fron the Dictators asked me if I had a public access show or something when I gave him a video of a show I had taped. A few days later, I was with some friends and we were talking about something. One of my friends said "Steve you always have an opinion on something, you should have a tv show." It seemed that , the phrase "you should have a tv show" was everywhere.....so with that I went in and applied for one and that's the end of the story....so far

You are The Hierophant

Divine Wisdom. Manifestation. Explanation. Teaching.

All things relating to education, patience, help from superiors. The Hierophant is often considered to be a Guardian Angel.

The Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

I'd like to meet:

I'm pretty easy going, so there aren't too many types of people I wouldn't care to meet I have a public access show here in Manhattan, called "Born to Lose". It airs Sunday Night/Monday morning at 2:00 am on channel 57. I originally started my show as a way to give exposure to up and coming bands, artists and as a forum for people to express an opinion. I also wanted to try to get artists on that I felt had been overlooked by the mainstream media, or who have kept plugging away year after year after year in dank smelly clubs... in other words, the bands I admire and respect. Over the years things have changed, bands have wanted to come on and get exposure, but then flaked out in the end. I still try to get artists whose work I admire and respect on the show. The show has also allowed me to get things off my chest, and I have used it as my soapbox to give my take on issues I find important. The show itself is very lowtech, it's me with my camcorder on a tripod with a remote control. I have done interviews in recording studio's and on the sidewakl outside of CBGB at 2 in the morning with everyone somewhat buzzed. Some of the guests who have come on the show are: Jello Biafra, C.J. Ramone and his band Los Gusanos, Demonspeed, Hazel O'Connor (Give yourself 20 points if you know who she is) and others. If you have a band, or ar an artist and would like some exposure contact me and we'll take it from there. You must be in Manhattan though, so if you want to be on, but live in Kenosha, WI, you're out of luck, unless you plan on coming and playing one of the clubs here. However, if you have a video of your band and would like it aired, I can do that. So, as to who I'd like to meet.... well, just about anyone and everyone. I just ask that they not be a complete airhead and have something to say. ..

Please click the banner and read about what is happening to George Tabb. Some of you may know him from the band Furious George or Iron Prostate and some of you may know him from his columns in such publications as NY Press. He's one of the victims of the poor air quality around Ground Zero after the attacks on 9/11/01

Movies:

Easy Rider, Blue Velvet, The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs,Rock N Roll High School,Dario Argento movies,George Romero, John Carpenter. I've seen several thousand movies and still watching. I watch all kinds of movies from some of the latest Hollywood crapola to obscure grade Z schlock distributed by Something Weird, to Italian Horror and Hong Kong films. Check out the films of Robert Siodmark for some great film noir.

Television:

The Simpson's, My Name is Earl, Arrested Development (Thankfully there is dvd). I also loved Andy Richter Controls the Universe, very funny, creative (maybe it too will see the light of DVD release) I HATE REALITY TV...it isn't real, it is perceived reality that has been packaged and manufactured. I watch a lot of TV land....the Daily Show. I used to like CSI, until I read where they were going to move away from the certain themes and topics in the series so they could get the ok from the moral majority types who want to censor everything, and self censoring to make a buck is the lowest form of whoring one can do.

Books:

Farenheit 451, Animal Farm,1984,Raymond Chandler mysteries, Jim Thompson, Killer Inside Me is classic. Lately I've been reading a lot of biography/autobiographies. I recently finished "If they move..Kill'em" a biography on Sam Peckinpah....very interesting book, I highly recommend it. Sam Fuller's autobiography. "A Third Face"... great book, very interesting and very highly recommended.

Heroes:

**7/13/05, One might think it's silly or odd or just downright crazy to say that their pet is a hero to them, but it's true. Gena was my baby, my little man. He was the most loveable mushball and the friendliest cat in the world. Everyone who met him fell in love with him. Gena had the sweetest persona of any cat I've ever met or had. He constantly purred, the motor was always running. He kept me going in the darkest times and was there to experience the good times as well. He fought a brave battle against hepatic lipidosa, but saddly lost the fight on 7/13/05. I salute you and just wish I could have curled up next to you in your kennel at the hospital like you would do for me when I was sick. I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH ALREADY. You were a unique presence in my life and my life is the richer and fuller for having you in it. You gave me so many years of pleasure and enjoyment and love and I will never forget you. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- too many to mention and for various reasons they span all walks of life from politicians to musicians to thinkers to writers to filmmakers. Short list of my heroes: 1) The unnamed people who work towards the betterment of man by finding cures for diseases that would have killed many of us off not too many years ago. 2) Jello Biafra, for speaking his mind and performing music that dared to look at the hypocrisy of the political world. 3) John Lennon, my earliest influence...one need only look at the words to the song "Imagine" to know why. 4) Joey Ramone, besides fronting the great punk band, he stayed here in the city and took an active role in getting up and coming bands exposure. He loved music, he loved the people, and he always supported his hometown however he could. 5) Kurt Vonnegut, for making reading interesting 6) George Orwell, for writing in a fictional way the scary rise of Big Brother, which becomes more and more of a reality everyday in this country. 7) Teachers, not all of them....lord knows I had some really crappy teachers who just didn't care, but for every teacher out there that inspired their students or actually took the time to treat their students as actual people and not just heads in a room, a big salute. 8)Gandhi, I think his name alone should say enough. That's the short list......I'm sure if pressed I could come up with others...actually I know there are more
