About Me

Wanna buy a great Florida home?
And here's the Virtual Tour page, if you're interested.

"Tarkus" (aka David) was born in Houston, Texas more than a half-century ago; I'm a graduate of The Lovett School in Atlanta and Rice University in Houston; I have one brother (the almost-famous Hollywood Cinematographer Robert Presley ); I have been married and divorced three times (can you say "poor decision making"?); and I have one daughter (Jordan) by my second marriage who is in her College Junior year at Cal.

As you get to know more about me, you'll find that I'm one of those jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none types (well, maybe I'm pretty good at a few things). Some of my life's interests include Music , Golf , Travel , SCUBA Diving , and other assorted oddities .

In the business world, you could loosely call me an insurance agent; more specifically, I've performed both sales and underwriting functions for a Managing General Agency called Alternative Market Specialists (AMS) since our inception in October 1997. I use the past tense because - as of the end of 2001 - I (more or less) became an I.T. department of one and actually do very little actual insurance anymore... which helps explain why you find me on here as often as you do!

My Alter Ego:

My Interests

I've always described myself as a "jack of all trades, master of none". As I begin the second half-century of my life, I've taken stock and decided that I'm spread too thin... to that end, I'm now focusing the lion's share of my pleasure time on music and golf.

I'd like to meet:

Some of you know that I won the keyboard category in Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizards In Winter" Contest. Many folks wondered what the four category winners would sound like if we all played together - and thanks to the editing expertise of McStuffles now we know!

Lastly, if I never was destined to replace Keith in one of the many incarnations of ELP - here's a sample of what would've been my second choice (Annie Haslam / Renaissance... this being an excerpt from the 28+ minute 'Scheherezade and Other Stories'):

Music:

( Rick Wakeman being my second-most-fave keyboardist) ..

Movies:

I'm also a sucker for most movies - even schlocky ones - on the SciFi channel.

Television:

I am a self-proclaimed vidiot. If I had any sense I would probably be in the television industry.

Books:

I tend to read mostly technical literature, specific to whatever is of interest to me at the moment (e.g., as of Feb '06 I'm reading "Body Rx" by A. Scott Connelly MD, and the manuals for the Garmin GPSMAP 2010, the Ratheyon ST4000 autopilot, and the Raytheon ST60 Wind System... heady stuff, huh?!!). :D
However, in the spirit of this question, my one all-time favorite book is "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. Besides the power, breadth, and scope, I find it to be horrifically accurate in its depiction of where we seem to be headed!

Heroes:

I need to give this question some thought... because, other than some great minds of days-gone-by (springing to mind as I type this are Galileo, Newton, Einstein, Edison, da Vinci) - and equally great artists (including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Degas, Monet, Rembrandt, Shakespeare)... nobody really comes to mind as someone I would value as a hero.

Let me get back to you on this...
