Strike a chord - any chord

About Me

In the 80s I travelled the Club circuit playing with the likes of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Michael Chapman, Martin Simpson, Mike Absalom, Jake Thackeray and Alexis Korner. The last two are sadly missed. Martin will never be forgotten for his timeless advice on caring for fingernails - they grew back after six months. In the 90s I did other stuff. Hats off.In 2001 I came back to Weymouth and picked up on the music again - starting from scratch. See what you think. If you like it, cool. If not, that's cool too!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Just me, plus a few guitars, a growing collection of pedals and gizmos, and a hopeless tangle of leads! However, sometimes I play with a band format. The membership varies, but perm any of: Tom, Grant, Tim (guitar); Chris, Will (bass); Ady, Rob (drums); Mark, Jack (keyboards); Storm (vocals).
Influences: John Martyn, Kelly Joe Phelps, Martin Simpson, Tia, Roy Harper, Nick Drake, Gram Parsons, Sheryl Crow, Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Richard Thompson, Little Feat, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Cockburn, Bruce Springsteen, Bert Jansch, Paul Simon, Dan Fogelberg, Ricki Lee Jones, Dido, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Mark Knopfler, Emmylou Harris, 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, Eric Anderson, Fairport Convention, Foo Fighters, Free, Gene Clark, Groundhogs, Elvis Costello, Frank Zappa, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Alan Stivell, Cream, Steve Winwood

Anti-influences: James Blunt and any other three-chord, lack talent who thinks that stringing together a bunch of cliches constitutes writing a song.

Pet hates: People who shout out requests at free entry gigs.
Sounds Like: I have been told that I sound like: John Martyn, Cat Stevens, Roger Waters and Iain Anderson. Take your pick. All are flattering, but I like to think I sound like me :-)
Record Label: Unsigned
Type of Label: Indie

The Death of Original Music?

I lost a gig today. Why? Because I don't use a backing track and because I don't do Beatles or Elvis covers. This is not unique to the venue in question, this is now a very common ocurrence in Weymout...

At last

Bit of a cough

I've had a lousy cold for the last couple of weeks and this has developed into a bronchial infection. I have a wheelbarrow full of antibiotics to prove it! Anyway, life has been quiet since New Year, ...
