I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I began my musical journey at the age of six, when I first saw Kentucky fiddler J.P. Fraley at the fiddler's convention in Galax, VA in 1986. For my seventh birthday my parents bought me a fiddle and private lessons, which I continued for the next seven years or so. Although my early musical training encompassed a variety of idioms, my main focus was traditional 'old-time' dance tunes. I spent much of my childhood traveling to fiddler's conventions around Florida and North Carolina with my brother Matt and parents Lo and Mary Gordon, with whom I played in a family band and learned many tunes.

After my family's relocation to the mountains of North Carolina in 1993, my parents founded Celestial Mountain Music and Cedar Mountain Banjos . In addition to the fiddle, I also play the guitar, bass and clawhammer banjo, and have ventured into bluegrass, Celtic, swing, country and other related forms of music, new and old. I am currently the fiddler for the High Windy Band , an award-winning contemporary bluegrass group based in Asheville, NC. I also teach private fiddle lessons for all levels and a variety of styles and regularly play dances and other side gigs, as well as an occasional studio session.

I have been working for my dad in the banjo shop for the past couple of years and live with my dog Vassar in a solar-powered cottage that I built on my property.

My Interests

Music, the great outdoors, dogs, how things work, food, good beer, interesting people, woodworking, sustainable living, alternative energy, small business, building things, studio engineering and production, travel, reading, smart gals in cowboy boots, combining words or phrases to make new ones, the indictment of greedy political and corporate jackasses.

About the tune...

The fiddle tune (edited down for a sound clip) on the player is actually a medley of two tunes.  The first is called 'Cotton-Eyed Joe, Too' and is not traditional, but rather a contemporary varia...
