The Duckpond Pottery is a working pottery studio and shop owned by husband/wife team Nick Friedman and Jennifer Kelly. The shop is located on a high bank perched over the French Broad River in the NC mountain town of Brevard. Our studio also happens to be the workplace and creative haven for some fine songwriters and musicians who have helped build the dream of the Duckpond at Dusk summertime concert series.

Our concert series has its roots in the parties and open houses we have put on over the years where our musician friends and coworkers would get together and help us put on a great time. It seemed a shame to limit our musical fun to one or two annual events. With the backdrop of the French Broad River and the valley beyond, we all sat around on the deck and dreamed up Duckpond at Dusk...an event where people could take in a summer sunset on the river and enjoy some of the finest acoustic music we could drum up. All this without the background noise of a bar scene: a true listening venue (though folks are welcome to bring a small cooler for the evening and you will hear a few cars rolling past on the highway).

Among the musicians you will see at Duckpond at Dusk are some of the folks who have been instrumental to the growth and success of the Duckpond Pottery... Shannon Whitworth, Suzanne Schmitt, Jerry Trapp, Lyndsay Wojcik, and Darin Gentry. All Duckpond at Dusk events are held on our deck overlooking the river under a canopy of trees and as such are weather-permitting events. The weather has to look pretty bad for us to cancel, but it is within the realm of possibility. All events have a minimum donation of $5 payable on your honor as you arrive.

WHY THE MINIMUM $5 DONATION?
Used to seeing free music at bars? Well, we aren't a bar and so we can't sell expensive drinks to pay the musicians and musicians need to be paid. Instead, we let you bring your own bottle of wine or some beer if you want it. We put out fresh baked breads, cheese and fruit. Folks bring potluck finger foods and snacks - sometimes amazing desserts. We provide cups, an ice bin, water, ginger ale, a few bottles of wine and napkins. You go home with memories of a fun evening and great music and you're only out $5 and maybe a little extra for gas. When was the last time you went to a bar for "free music" and got home with only $5 missing from your bank account? If you're honestly broke, at least bring some food and we might let you stay.

LOCATION INFORMATION:
Our Address: 2398 Greenville Hwy (Hwy 276): We are located on highway 276 about 2 miles south of downtown Brevard.
PARKING INFORMATION: Our parking lot only holds about twenty or so cars, but you can park across the street along the shoulder of Becky Mountain Road. Try to get your car completely off the road if possible. We try to discourage parking along the shoulder of 276 because it is very dangerous and may eventually get us into trouble. Bring a flashlight or headlamp in case you linger after sunset and need to get back to your car.

Another great night with Shannon Whitworth and her many friends....

Another great evening at Duckpond...Shannon enchanted the crowd with songs from her new cd release "No Expectations", and with a few of the older gems she wrote while touring with The Biscuit Burners....
