DJ Wikkid is a full-fledged DJ, before it was the thing to be. He started becoming a disc jockey around mid 1983 in a skating rink, learning the ropes around mixers, turntables, and microphones. This is where his roots formed; because it is also the time when the origins of breakbeat came about, for example Soul Sonic Force released “Planet Rockâ€or when "Beat Street" the album came out. He is self-taught, which is the only way to create your own unique style, experimenting with different beats, and sounds, to make him into the DJ he is today.
After spinning at the skating rink for over seven years, he stepped up to the club scene. Off Limits was a teen-club, where he started to learn programming techniques, to rotate dancefloors, and create energy. This is where he teamed up with the famed Paul Santana. Club Kokomos is where he first met DJ Christopher Craze and the infamous DJ BT, who also shared the same passion for music as Wikkid. There began the friendships that would create sounds the world has never heard before and friendships that would last a lifetime.
After running the teen circuit, he finally turned 18, and went on to the adult dance clubs. At Club Mako’s in Seminole, he met three of the most influential people that showed him the path to stardom, Ice Bryce(M.I.A.), Stan “The Man†Priest, and Matt the Brat. These people taught him a different style of programming, relating to partying, alcohol, and promotion. This led him into all kinds of opportunities, including spinning on the all-live mix show on 93.3FM, live from the club.
From there, he Dj’ed his first club opening at the age of 19, The Krush. This is the place where he knew he would be in this career for a very long time. Also, he got his first taste of techno-rave music that was hypnotic to him, and had to follow it. It led him to reside at Club Ozone, Tampa’s renowned late night that was just the beginning of many great things to come.
Club appearances and performances include, but not limited to, Eden, Krush, Zoo, MoonGate, BoatYard, Galaxy, Outer Limits, Parthenon, Firestone, Club La Vela, UV, Zuma Beach Club, Platinum Vault, The Edge, The Bomb, Liquid City, Fantasy Ranch 1&2, AV-02, The Paint Factory, The Rubb, The Studio, Stormins Palace, Amphitheater (Ybor,Tampa), Floyd’s @ Hard Rock Tampa, The Louvre, and too many house parties to mention. And this is by no means a complete list. He has been booked in North Carolina, Miami, Gainesville, Orlando, Tallahassee, Ocala, Panama Beach, Sarasota, and Bradenton. He has been well traveled in his days. Spinning along side of some of the world most popular DJs around the country. Also working in numerous dance clubs for normal business hours, moving crowds of hard working people on the dance floors and to the bars to ring the registers.
What he loved the most was when Craze and Wikkid teamed up, formed a partnership, and promoted themselves as 2 in a Booth Productions. This kicked off a whole new realm of possibilities for this duo. They were the first in the area to experiment, and master, up to six turntables and two DJs at the same time. They mixed sounds that people could not believe were possible. These two learned so much from each other it’s dangerous! They were undoubtedly headed towards stardom.
DJ Wikkid has worked with many other promotion companies, including Moist, AMP, Marz, Love & Light, Sage, Global Productions, Basscore, Soul-R Productions, Techno Inside, Urban Groove, Rage.net and Floridamixers.com. He is well known in the Southeastern United States, and plans on branching out as far as he can reach, to infinity and beyond. He has over 36 promotional CDs to his name and many cassette tapes from back in the day. All this leads to the music, which has been his influence throughout his entire life. He spins any genre, and is most talented in breakbeat, electro, house, trance, goa, NY/UK hard house, old skool, top 40, booty, and hip-hop. If you want a flexible DJ, then he is your man to spin the jams.
This biography culminates to DJ Wikkid having over 24 years of experience in the field of music. He can adapt to genre or venue, unless everyone has cowboy hats and boots on. From radio shows, weddings, to large late night venues, or mainstream discotheques, he can satisfy everyone, bringing a very unique sound that is somewhat not the mainstream. Often imitated, but never duplicated, that is Wikkid.
