Andy Pizzo

"Bringin' The Bone Right To Ya'!"

About Me

Andy Pizzo is an established trombonist in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans areas who strives to be at his best, no matter what the gig calls for. Whether playing along the Gulf Coast or getting an opportunity to play in New York City, Andy brings the trombone to the forefront of whatever band he is performing with. He performs in several bands of various styles; jazz, funk, latin, rock, blues, classical, etc. What makes his playing unique is when he combines his natural trombone sound with the effects of a series of guitar pedals. He brings this out especially in his own band, "THE ANDY PIZZO PROJECT". Andy does many things within his musical career: leading bands, being a featured soloist, being a studio recording artist, performing as a lead trombone player, being a section trombone player, as a private instrumental tutor, and his day job as a middle school band director. There is a much deeper biography on ANDY PIZZO on his website: www.andypizzo.com. I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!

Band Members: This section will tell of the various bands that ANDY PIZZO is a member of: THE ANDY PIZZO PROJECT: 2001 - present (This is his own band that performs a variety of jazz and funk, yet works at fusing the two styles together to give jazz a much funkier beat which one can definately groove to. They have released their debut c.d. in 2006: Bouncin' on O-ZIP Records.); PHAT HAT: 2003 - present (This is a 70's funk/soul band that brings you all the hits from Al Green to Stevie Wonder, from Edgar Winter to Kool and the Gang.); VIVAZ LATIN BAND: 2001 - present (This is salsa/latin jazz group that plays classics from Buena Vista Social Club to Oscar D'Leon); NED FASULLO AND HIS FABULOUS BIG BAND: 2003 - 2007 (This is a group that gives tribute to the Rat Pack: Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, and Frank Sinatra); LATINISMO LATIN BAND: 2006 - present (This is latin band that covers all of the latin classics plus mixes in the dance tunes of the 70's and 80's, but puts a latin twist to them); THE HIGHSTEPPAS BRASS BAND: 2006 - present (This is mix of some crazy good ol' boys that like to have a good time and put some brassy sounds to some fun music. They've played for events like the Crescent City Classic and the 2007 Sugar Bowl), THE JOHN MAHONEY BIG BAND (This is one the best big band in New Orleans. They play the original compositions and arrangements of Loyola University's own, John Mahoney). One can also see Andy sitting in with groups like New York's own LA EXCELLENCIA (salsa dura); New Olreans' own BONERAMA (trombone funk/rock), THE BUCKTOWN ALL STARS (70's, 80's, 90's, and today's classic dance hits and quite the party band, if I must say!), and THE IMAGINATION MOVERS (this is like Metallica meets Green Day meets freakin' Barney! This band is a children's rock group and will rock the socks right off ya.), THE BOOGIE MEN (dance/cover band)
Influences: TROMBONE = J.J. Johnson, Carl Fontana, John Fedchock, Conrad Herwig, Robin Eubanks, Harry Watters, Mark Mullins, etc.; FUNK = Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Bonerama, etc.; BIG BAND = Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Maynard Ferguson, The U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, etc.;
Sounds Like: Andy Pizzo brings a mix of sounds to the gig. He plays on a KING 2B Trombone and uses that for all of his solo and lead trombone playing. He brings to the table a mix of the sounds from the funky stuff of Fred Wesley and the JBs all the way to the lead trombone style of Tommy Dorsey, from the latin sounds of Willie Colon to the soloistic sounds of Conrad Herwig. He also incorporates a series of BOSS GUITAR EFFECTS PEDALS that he uses to manipulate the sound of his trombone. He uses a series of sounds from the digital wah-wah, super shifter, phase shifter, delay, and distortion pedals. He uses this particularly with THE ANDY PIZZO PROJECT and PHAT HAT.
