About Me

Biography

The Chants of Maldoror are formed in December 1994, when Adolphe (vocals) and David (bass), both coming from an ultra-underground band (no shows, no records) named Mater Tenebrarum, decide to give life with Echo (keys/synth/piano) and, subsequently, with Loren (guitars) to a project of medieval/ritualistic music. The band’s name is taken from “Les Chants de Maldoror” a prose poem by Isidore Ducasse comte de Lautreamont (1846/1870), decadent work which is considered a manifesto of surrealistic imagery.

The C.O.M. have changed their sound until reaching a more death-rock oriented form, as stated by the first release, the “Ritual Death” demotape (1997), presented at the italian festival “Ascension of the Gods”, where they shared the stage with some well-known international bands. This show was followed by other live acts, and “Ritual Death” was reviewed on european and overseas fanzine and magazines.

The first official full-lenght cd “Thy Hurting Heaven”, comes in june 2000 from the label Radio Luxor/spv and presents a new sound evolution, leading the C.O.M. to the status of “European goth rock cult band”. This release was soon followed by live acts across Europe in small clubs as important stages as well, just as the ones at the 11th international festival “Wave Gotik Treffen” in Leipzig, the “Music Placet” in Wien, and the legendary Amsterdam’s “Paradiso”.

After spending five years between rehearsals and long recording session, in september 2005 the band made out the second album “Every Mask Tells The Truth” through the Austrian label Strobelight Records. This record shows a further sound evolution, revealing a more experimental and wave oriented attitude.
