HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA... Perhaps the most esteemed of the Horror Drunx chapters is steeped in a long tradition of Horror... Lon Chaney Sr., Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, John Carridine... name any King of Horror films and they hung their hats here, made their classic Horror Films here, and had hangovers here...
From the earliest silent films, right up to the present new crop of horror films. And you can’t seem to have a drink in this town without stumbling through the location where some horror movie was filmed.
It is only fitting that the current Hollywood chapter leader of the Horror Drunx has nearly as impressive a Horror tradition as Hollywood itself... SID TERROR, singer/songwriter for the seminal Horror Punk band THE UNDEAD since 1977.
If you have any doubts, Terror’s great-grandfather was Max Shreck (Shreck is the German translation of Terror) who starred as the vampire Count Orlock in the 1922 silent film horror classic NOSFERATU (Nosferatu is the German translation for Undead...is it all making sense now?). To top it off, when Terror’s mother was pregnant with him, she went into labor in a movie theater while watching a re-release of Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein! And the die was cast... At age 7 Terror was already such a horror fan that he was correcting the tour guides on a tour of Universal Studios! At age 8 when given a choice between Disneyland for his birthday, or a visit to the home of Forrest J. Ackerman (Creator and Editor of Famous Monsters Of Filmland Magazine), Terror chose The Ackermansion! By age 16 he was friends with Vincent Price, a friendship that would last until Price’s death.
1977 in Hollywood California, Terror created the horror punk band THE UNDEAD, who along with The Cramps, The Damned, and The Misfits (started within a month of The Undead) were the 4 bands that really originated and gave a face and a sound to the then new genre of Horror Punk that we still rock and drink to today. The Undead songs, which include “Booze Beast†and “More Beer†have also become Horror Drunx anthems world wide...Plus THE UNDEAD also penned the official "Horror Drunx Anthem" theme song.
Sid has also contributed to or appeared on the pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine, Fangoria Magazine, RESearch publications Incredibly Strange Films book (as an uncredited consultant) and countless others, directed and wrote two seasons of the television series “The Video Asylum†and been a screenwriter and script doctor for several films and television shows (buy him a drink or two and he’ll tell you the titles).
And who else do you know other than Sid Terror who can boast of once being a neighbor of ED WOOD (and getting drunk with him), is a personal friend of VAMPIRA, has gone bowling with MICHEAL BERRYMAN (Pluto from the original HILLS HAVE EYES), has co'writing credit on a song with director HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS (The Godfather of Gore), has worked on movies with ROBERT ENGLUND (Freddy from the Nightmare On Elm Street series), GUNNAR "LEATHERFACE" HANSEN of the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE)?!! Etc, etc, etc... The guy is a walking encyclopedia of all things horror!
When Mortimer A. London, originator of The Horror Drunx approached Sid Terror about being the new Hollywood chapter Prez. in December of 2006, it was a match made in... Well, HOLLYWOOD HORROR and Terror accepted the offer!
