About Me

Glen MacNeil writes simple songs about complex things: love, family, home, heartbreak. He does with great emotion, distinct melodies and memorable hooks. Glen writes from a perspective of distance, of interludes between lovers and lives and the roads that lead from small towns to big cities and back again.Glen was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada but moved to his family’s native Cape Breton when he was only two years of age. Growing up on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, music is part of the cultural landscape - music is in the blood. The family home in Glencoe Station was a musical one and host to many kitchen parties. Glen would sit and watch and listen to his father play the guitar for hours while relatives sang their favourite old songs. Those hours of listening and singing would prove to be a huge influence on Glen’s life and love of music. The passion that Glen’s relatives expressed when singing their songs is the same passion he has for singing and performing today.Glen is a constant performer on the folk scene in the Windsor-Essex, Ontario region performing solo shows as well as dates with his duo “ReGael” - ReGael‘s CD Coastlines - " a collection of traditional, contemporary and original songs certain to satisfy...the lyrics taking the listener coast to coast in scope and vision"- Inverness Oran.Glen is a member of SOCAN and the Songwriters Association Of Canada and has recently received an "Honourable Mention" from the 14th Annual Billboard World Song Contest for a song he co-wrote called "Just Stay Awhile". Glen also received an "Honourable Mention" from the 2006 Singer/Songwriter Awards as well as the 2005 Billboard World Song Contest and the 2005 Unisong International Song Contest for another song he co-wrote called “Across My Heart”.Bookings: Atlantic Multimedia 14 Montebello Lane, Kanata, Ontario K2L 1X6 www.atlanticmultimedia.ca Telephone: 613-831-1866 Fax: 866-707-4458 (toll free within North America) Email: [email protected]

Band Members: Glen - acoustic guitar & vocals
Influences: My Dad, Gerry MacNeil, was a big influence and inspiration to me. I remember sitting and watching him play the guitar for hours and knowing that I wanted to play like him someday. All of the family loved to sing and play and I really enjoyed being a part of that. My Mom has always been a great supporter to me and my brothers - not once did she say "turn that down!". Thanks Mom!John Allan Cameron was a huge inspiration to me. Here was a guy from Glencoe Station, Cape Breton taking on the world with only a 12-string guitar and a voice! Unbelievable! He was a true inspiration to me and a great friend to my Father and my family. I bet John Allan and Dad are up in heaven having a jam session every night! God bless them. All singer/songwriters everywhere influence and inspire. In particular, my good friend Roger John, introduced me to fingerstyle guitar and that really had a major influence on my style of guitar playing today and my approach to writing.Bookings: Michael Trenholm, Atlantic Multimedia Inc.
