About Me

Family from Maji- ya Chai, Tanzania, St. Louis, MO & Chicago, IL. I’ve been working for over a decade weaving together mediums of theater, dance, music, and spoken word using improvisation. My first love is the first instrument – the voice – from which all other music flows. I like to improvise with other vocalists, beat-boxers, dancers, poets, mc's & musicians. My chief interest is to use music & myth to bridge the divide between Africans & African-Americans - and then divides among all peoples.

My Interests

Myth, herbal & non-invasive healing, music, learning swahili

I'd like to meet:

imaginative, justice-minded people: music lovers, artists, folks who know about creative & sane self-management/making new markets for their work

Music:

ritual, acoustic, indegenous musics from around the world, folk & community musics, hip hop, dusty blues, soul, jazz/free improvisation, sountracks, some rock, old country where it meets the blues, fife & drum corps, space-age exploration.

Books:

The Famished Road by Ben Okri, Nappy Edges by Ntozake Shange, The Prisoner's Wife by asha bandele
