About Me

Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott (July 9, 1946 – February 19, 1980) was an Australian rock musician. He was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland, and emigrated to Melbourne, Australia with his family in 1952 at the age of six. Scott is most well-known for being the lead singer and co-lyricist of AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980.Scott formed his first band, The Spektors, in 1964 and became the band's drummer and occasional lead vocalist. He performed in several other bands including The Valentines, Fraternity and the Mount Lofty Rangers before replacing Dave Evans as the lead singer of AC/DC in 1974.AC/DC had their first internationally-released album with High Voltage in 1976, establishing an international presence. Eight of the nine songs on the album were co-written by Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young. Afterwards, AC/DC released the international studio albums Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and Powerage before releasing their most successful album with Bon Scott, Highway to Hell in 1979. On February 19, 1980, Scott died from alcohol poisoning after a night of partying on London. Five months after his death, AC/DC and their new lead singer, Brian Johnson recorded Back in Black as a tribute to him.

I'd like to meet:

Fraternity was an Australian rock band active in the early 1970s. They are notable mainly for their lead vocalist Bon Scott who was later to join AC/DC; and Jimmy Barnes, Scott's replacement, who went on to join Cold Chisel and have a very successful solo career.Fraternity were formed in 1970 by some members of the recently-split Levi Smith Clefs. They were without a regular vocalist until Fraternity's bass player Bruce Howe decided to call upon Bon Scott, whose group The Valentines had just disbanded. New Zealand musician John Bissett played keyboards in this early line up.Fraternity released two albums and a few singles, which enjoyed moderate success in their native Australia. However, an attempt to find success in the UK was not fruitful and in early 1973 the band changed its name to Fang. By mid-1973 the group had stalled and gradually disintegrated, and the members returned to Australia. Some members formed the loosely-knit Mount Lofty Rangers with whom Bon Scott recorded a couple of songs before being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in early 1974. When he had recovered, Scott joined AC/DC and Fraternity later reformed with a different line-up and continued until about 1976.

Music:

The Valentines were an Australian rock 'n' roll band active from 1966-1970, chiefly noted for their lead singers, Bon Scott, who later went on to great success as lead vocalist with AC/DC, and Vince Lovegrove, who subsequently became a successful music journalist and manager of Divinyls. The band was formed in late 1966 with the amalgamation of Perth groups The Spektors and The Winstons. They capitalised on the success of both the former bands, plus the interest created by having two lead singers in Scott and Lovegrove. Inspired by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and local stars The Easybeats, they enjoyed considerable local success and released a few singles. In late 1967, The Valentines moved to Melbourne in search of greater success, and soon toured other major cities. With a development towards the popular Bubblegum sound late in 1968, the band became more in demand, particularly among teenage girls. However as the fashion for bubblegum music wore off, The Valentines struggled to retain their musical credibility despite a turn towards rock music. With differing opinions within the band concerning musical direction, and a much-publicised drugs bust in September 1969, group stability began to suffer. Although they still had a strong fanbase in certain areas of the country, especially back home in Perth, The Valentines decided to disband amicably in August 1970.Scott had built a strong reputation as a powerful vocalist and soon joined Fraternity, and later AC/DC. Lovegrove found success as a music journalist, and guitarist Wyn Milson became a sound engineer.
