MICHAEL DEMETER, also known as Dj Meilo, has been active in the music industry for the last 22 years. In those years he has been a vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, producer, and dj. Through out his career, Meilo has worked in L.A., San Diego, San Francisco, and Hawaii. He has also recorded in the worlds top studios and has toured worldwide with bands signed to Electra and MCA records.
For the last seven years Meilo has been creating beats and composing computer music as well as being a Dj. In 2002 he wrote and produced a full-length album of all original tracks entirely in his home studio and promoted independently in the US and Spain. Awakens’ tracks are drenched in organic instrumentation blended with electronica from trance and house to breaks and d&b. He has also released an abundance of Dj mix cd’s distributed and promoted independently.
Though he has been spinning all styles of music over the years, broken beat has always been on top; d&b, ragga jungle, and new school breaks, are the beats that move him. Meilos' main objective is to help expose more people to electronic music. D&b and ragga jungle seems to be already bridging the gap between hip-hop and rave culture. Some of his major production influences are Cartel, Metalheads, Tech Itch, Adam F, and Roni Size. Meilo is very passionate about playing broken beats and spreading good music as a Dj. As a producer he focuses on making tracks that will attract all people by combining familiar elements with the d&b and jungle sound.
Meilo has played guest spots and had residencies at some of the west coast and Hawaii’s hottest spots. Along with weekly club booking’s Meilo with Effectmix Productions presented a monthly open tables Dj contest, "Fierce Beats". After an 18 month run with Fierce Beats, Meilo introduced “MATHMATIX†a weekly that fused drum and bass and break beats, B-Boys, live Graffiti art, and underground culture in Hawaii, the latest club night, "SUBPHONIX", brings heavy hitting DnB every first friday of the month @ Mercury bar in downtown Honolulu. Current projects include the newly formed collective M*A*S*E* (Meilo, Antikkz, Synrgy, Empyr soundproductions) formed in December 2004, when Meilo joined forces with Antikks from N.Carolina, Synrgy from Washington D.C. and Empyr the latest member and one of the founders of "Drum and Bass T.V. hailing from Lexington Kentucky. All new transplants to Honolulu, Antikkz, Synrgy, and Empyr share Meilos' vision of spreading the gospel of drum-n-bass thru D.J.ing and producing quality music. With many new tracks in the works and weekly recording sessions, the collective is also constantly honing their live skills with a show that promises to please. With 4 turntables, scratching, keyboard, samplers and laptop their sets are a visual as well as audible circus.
