Aloha My Dear Friends,
Well, a lil' bit 'bout me.......
Here I am, one of the happiest times of my life. Onboards the SS Universe Explorer enroute from Tanzania to India..
Besides DNB, I love to Travel!!! Especially international travel, the more exotic the better! My first international trip was to Jamaica in 1997 and thats what got me hooked on traveling to exotic countries and faraway places. I guess this is how I first became interested in indigenous people, native indians and tribal people in general, I am especially intridued by nomadic tribes such as The Masai -famous as herders and warriors, once dominated the plains of East Africa in Kenya and Tanzania. Now however they are confined to a fraction of their former range. The Masai's beliefs and social system really fascinates me.
And all tribal people of the Amazon but especially the Quechua Indians of Peru.
In the Amazon in Peru~ a life changing experience.
An ancient Indian Proverb which I think is so true....
"The land doesn't belong to any individual: it belongs to the dead, the living, and those not yet born. You have the land only for a short time, to use it and to leave it. The land belongs to all of us." Ole Simel, Maasai, Kenya
One of my greatest accomplishments is definately going on Semester At Sea in the Spring of 2003 - A life changing, incredible experience, camping safari in Africa~a dream come true!
SAS Spring 2003 ~ A Voyage of Discovery
In Florida, where my trip all began...
Havana, Cuba ~ cuban people are truely inspirational....
And guess who decides to give us a 3 hour speech on Communism.....
Yup!!! Fidel himself!
Next Port~ Salvador, Brazil
I flew tp Rio to explore the home of the world's largest party~Carnival.
Copacabana Beach
Then on to Capetown, South Africa....
Top of the Cape of Good Hope where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean on the southern most tip of the African continent.
Then to Dar Es Salam, Tanzania to my dream come true.....
Yup my dream came true & everyone thought I'd never be able to do it but sure enough I did ~ a safari in Africa ~ camping safari that is in Taranguire National Park where Maasai Warriors guarded our camp from hyenas at night and one suspecting camper caught a Green Mamba by surprise in the outdoor showers. Yup my dream come true~ A Safari in Africa!!!
On route from Tanzania to Madras, India....
Then SARS happened.....and I'm going to skip the details of how this effected our journey since it was a true disappointment for me but basically we were rerouted in a major way! Next port.... Nagasaki, Japan
Mt Utzen Hot Springs
Then back track to Busan, Korea.....where I choose to first ferry off to Jeju Island~which is considered Asia's Hawaii.
The home of the longest lava tube in the world and the only place where limestone caves and Lava Tubes intersect~Hallim Park.
Then back to Japan, this time Osaka where our ship parked next to the world's largest ferris wheel.
Aleutian Island Volcano-on route from Japan to Alaska
There is an article about me and my trip around in my old work newsletter a while ago, if you are interested in reading it it is at:https://www.hawaii.edu/mop/seawordsimg/Seawords0406.pdf
What I'd often be so ashamed of is our government, how could our president possibly be so damn stupid, its a sad, sad day when I'd rather say I'm Canadian just to be safe that I dont have any problems and because I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm from America, yes I may be American but I definately DID NOT vote for Bush....
My Other Travels....
The Fijian Islandz-Bula Fiji 2000
I wish I got to travel interisland more often but here's a pic taken on Kauai with a grand daddy Sea turtle
I studied Travel Industry Management, my main interest is ecotourism. In case you are wondering what ecotourism is:The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) defines ecotourism as: "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." This means that those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities should follow the following principles:* Minimize impact
* Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect
* Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts
* Provide direct financial benefits for conservation
* Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people
* Raise sensitivity to host countries' political, environmental, and social
climate (situation)
* Support international human rights and labor agreements
The Most Incredible Place on Earth I have Ever Visited
Machu Picchu, The Lost City of the Inca's, 16,000 feet elevation, Andes Mountains in Peru.I also love the beach, snorkeling, diving, body boarding, I wish more than anything that I could surf, I've tried several times but what I need is a used 9'0, good, patient teacher and an uncrowded spot if anyone is bored and would like to volunteer to be my instructor, let me know k. I love just laying in the sun & looking for shells. I love hiking and used to a tour guide leading nature hikes on Oahu.
I really love my cat Maui.
And I love camping and just getting out and enjoying our tropical island paradise. Although I barely ever get to, since I work so much. I also love to go shopping both to the malls and bargain hunting, thrift stores, garage sales, etc.
On the weekends, you can usually find me at the clubs, if there is DNB I'm there, Mercury first Friday of every month is Subphonix Oahu's only monthly dnb PARTY so Ill always be there and then I go wherever else the music is good and I can get in for free or cheap, which the majority of the time is the LivingRoom upstairs at Fishermans Wharf Restaurant, Fridays is hiphop, Saturdays is house, I dont drink so Im the permanent desiganted driver for all my friends, so if you ever see me out and you are too drunk to drive, hit me up cuz I'd love to make sure you get home safely. Yeah I love going out, clubbing, concerts, outdoor parties, staying out all night. Breakfast early morning or watching the sunrise from Tantalous or the beach. My favorite is the beach parties, much luv to all my friends that can get those generators, turntables and all the equiptment down to Diamond Head or AD's for all us music lovers to dance til dawn, much luv, now we just gotta work on a drum and bass beach party, and that'd be it, I'd be in complete heaven!!
Besides going out, I gotta a ton of projects going on around the house from making hemp and beaded jewelry, sewing my own clothes- like cute backless tops to making shell mobile and scrapbooks for friends but my ..1 house project is the love of my life, all I really got, my cat Maui, once you meet him, its all over, you'll just fall in love guaranteed even if you hate cats, you'll love maui. Other Interests:~~Rainbow Gatherings~~When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow -- Old Native American ProphecyWhat is the Rainbow Family ?
Some say we're the largest non-organization of non-members in the world. We have no leaders, and no organization. To be honest, the Rainbow Family means different things to different people. I think it's safe to say we're into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. We also believe that Peace and Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. Many of our traditions are based on Native American traditions, and we have a strong orientation to take care of the the Earth.
We gather in the National Forests yearly to pray for peace on this planet.
I believe in kindness in all situations.....
