About Me

What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. The most recent and drastic attributes to Global Warming is primarily caused by human activities. The drastic increase in the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere are caused from burning fossil fuels, land clearing and other such unnatural contributions.
Is Global Warming a natural occerence?
The Earth over the course of its existence goes through natural heating a cooling periods. What makes this day in age different than any other? It is the fact that human’s activities are releasing far more carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere from the effects of burning fossil fuels and cutting down large forest. We are now releasing more CO2 than ever in the history of the earth.
How is CO2 causing global warming?
The heat from the sun goes into our atmosphere and some of it is absorbed on the surface and some bounces back into space. CO2 absorbs some of the heat released from the earth keeping a stable temperature. With the increase of CO2 in effect increases the amount of heat trapped in our atmosphere. The heat that is trapped will increase the over all temperature of our planet.
What is the difference between Global Warming and the Hole in the Ozone Layer?
“The ozone hole is a thinning of the stratosphere's ozone layer, which is roughly 9 to 31 miles above the earth's surface. The depletion of the ozone is due to man-made chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). A thinner ozone layer lets more harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation to reach the earth's surface.”
“Global warming, on the other hand, is the increase in the earth's average temperature due to the buildup of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from human activities.” --Quote from www.fightglobalwarming.com

My Interests

THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR OUR EARTH
#1 RECYCLE
"Be sure you’re recycling at home. You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your household generates.”
If your city doesn’t do curb side recycling find a recycle center in your area and do it yourself!!
“Every ton of paper recycled saves 3,000 litres of water and 95% of the emissions”
“Glass recycling saves about 50% of the energy required to produce virgin glass.”
“Each ton of recycled steel saves 1.28 tons of solid waste, and energy consumption by 75%”
"Recycling one aluminium can save enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours or a 100 watt light bulb for 20 hours."
#2 BUY RECYCLED PRODUCTS
“It takes less 70 to 90% less energy to make recycled paper and it prevents the loss of forests worldwide.”
#3 BUY MORE FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICALS
“Almost one third of the carbon dioxide produced in the United States comes from our cars, trucks and airplanes.”
#4 CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE
If you can't afford to upgrade to that hybrid car, keep your gas mileage down by keeping your tires inflated properly
#5 PLANT A TREE
“A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. Shade provided by trees can also reduce your air conditioning bill by 10 to 15%. The Arbor Day Foundation has information on planting and provides trees you can plant with membership.”
#6 BUY FRESH AND LOCAL GROWN FOODS
Seek out and support local farmers markets
Buy organic foods as much as possible
#7 EAT LESS MEAT
"Methane is the second most significant greenhouse gas and cows are one of the greatest methane emitters. Their grassy diet and multiple stomachs cause them to produce methane, which they exhale with every breath.” To get yummy Vegetarian and Vegan recipes without meat ingrediants please visit: www.peta.org
#8 BUY ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS
Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
#9 CONSERVE ENERGY IN YOUR HOME
Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer.
Use less hot water
Use a clothesline instead of a dryer whenever possible
Only run your dishwasher or laundry when there is a full load
Insulate and weatherize your home
#10 BUY USED AND VINTAGE CLOTHING
#11 CAR POOL OR TAKE THE BUS
#12 PAY YOUR BILLS ONLINE AND STOP YOUR PAPER STATEMENTS
#13 BUY ENERGY EFFICIENT OR ENERGY STAR PRODUCTS
#14 BOYCOTT THE PLASTIC BAG
Every year more that 500 billion plastic bags end of in our landfills. Instead of having your groceries in a plastic bag, get the paper bags and recycle them. Or even better bring your own bags!
#15 TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER
Screen saver does not conserve energy!! When you go to bed or when the computer is not in use turn it off.
#16 UNPLUG YOUR APPLIENCES AND ELECTRONICS WHEN NOT IN USE
#17 BREAST FEED
It doesn't take any energy to make breast milk. Studies have shown that children who are breast fed are healthier and smarter. It's good for the Mom, babie and the Earth!
