About Me

"One of the best instrumentalists I've ever worked with.."
~Bobby Caldwell
"Patrick Lamb's playing and singing are simply fabulous!"
~Two- Time Grammy Winning Diane Schuur
Recently Grammy Nominated Patrick Lamb was recently given the Independant Spirit award by the city of Portland, given to Portland neighbors and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the community. Winners are selected from nominations submitted by citizens. Each year, the selection committee is comprised of representatives from Commissioners’ Offices, the Office of Neighborhood Involvement, neighborhood coalitions, neighborhood business associations and past recipients.
Patrick has exercised his capabiilty and has become known in music and the community on many different levels, most recently producing an award winning symphony Pops series in conjunction with the Oregon Symphony that celebrates some of the northwest's best talent, and touring with some of the greats of our time - two time Grammy winning Diane Schuur, the legendary Bobby Caldwell and Gino Vannelli. Patrick personal roots are steeped in southern blues and jazz from his birth in Jackson, Mississippi. Awarded three Muddy awards in different years by voting members of the Northwest music community and the Cascade Blues Association, Patrick has been solidly and consistently recognized by his peers and community as a world class talent. He began paying his dues in the clubs in Mississipi, studying under former Fats Waller bandmember Andy Hardwick, performing with groups that opened up for BB King, and playing dates with G.C. Cameron, formerly with the Temptations. When Patrick then moved to the Pacific Northwest, he rapidly began to make a name for himself for an artist with soul and versatility. In Portland he studied under Dave Barduhn, former arranger for the Stan Kenton Band, and began touring in ther early 1990s with multiple Grammy award winning vocalist Diane Schuur.
Patrick has been honored with numerous awards, including the acclaimed best soloist award, at an early age at the Lionel Hampton Jazz competition (under direction of Thara Memory). As a result, he performed with Lionel Hampton, and, by request, performed twice at the White House in Washington, DC. Most recently Patrick has toured with Diane Schuur, and currently tours internationally -- currently in Japan --with legendary R and B artist Bobby Caldwell. Patrick has won Muddy Awards for the NW Tribute to Ray Charles -- both for the concert production by his own production company, and for his own extraordinary performances on the saxophone. The subsequent CD has been nominated for a Muddy Award, has been picked up by the Oregon Symphony Pops to open their season October 6,7,8, 2007.
Patrick's forthcoming CD, "Soul of a Free Man", was released November 2006 in Japan, is a Rockstarmix finalist Portland, Oregon, and will be officially released in the USA on March 3, 2007. Patrick is simply one of the most unique, dynamic, and increasingly successful artists (saxophone and vocals) to come out of the Northwest. A consistent track record of exquisitely and passionately crafted music and community contribution makes him constantly in demand.
Patrick's work has included recordings with many artists including Gino Vannelli, Jeff Lorber, Eddie Martinez, Dave Weckel, Nathan East, Ricky Lawson, 'Little John' Roberts, Alex Al, Bill Cunliffe, Tony Maiden, Curt Bisquera, Herman Jackson, Mel Brown, Marlon McClain, Nate Philips, The Crazy 8s, George Mitchell, Dan Balmer, Paul Delay, Norman Sylvester, John Raymond, Paul Jackson Jr., Tony Gable, Tom Grant, and many others.
A few personal notes... Patrick speaks Spanish, has a hobby of rebuilding motors and is a good soccer player. in May of 1986, Patrick was part of the largest mountain climbing tragedy in world history when seven of his fellow students died. He had trained with a group of young climbers from his high school at Oregon Episcopal School , but did not go on the scheduled climb because of a last minute -- in retrospect, fortuitous -- soccer injury. Years later, Patrick climbed Mt Hood, the site of the climb, and planted flags on the peak with written prayers for healing for the families and all those involved with the tragedy. While it has taken Patrick many years to recover from the dark effects of this tragedy, he has developed a keenly enhanced appreciation for the fragility of life, and a commitment to do something positive while he is on the planet.
Recent musical gigs by Patrick Lamb include, but are not limited to, performances at the Blue Notes in Japan and Milan, Italy; the Kennedy Center; Ronnie Scotts in London; Red Sea Jazz Festival; Palermo, Italy; various National TV shows including the CBS Morning Show; Craig Killborne; AM Northwest; etc.; and in schools and diverse benefits across the Northwest. In 1996 and 1997, Patrick was invited to perform at the White House during the holiday Congressional VIP Tours and was in attendance at "The Peace on Earth Celebration" which led to meeting President Clinton.
If you have any thoughts about Patrick Lamb's music please leave a note or comment, and if you really love his vibe, feel free to pass on his music to some of your friends and family.
