Influences: my core was classical, listening to maurice andre and rafeal mendez, and later armando ghitalla and . I grew up listening to a lot of dizzy, chick corea and the brecker bros, it was a great combination to get the bop and the nasty funk. I later listened to dexter gordon, freddie hubbard, chet baker, clifford brown, paul desmond and dave brubeck, and steps ahead---------and a ton of cut-outs that I found at discount records in Ann Arbor. later on I got heavily into phil woods/tom harrell, lew solof, and more pop stuff like sting, steeley dan, styx, and mid century pop. guys that helped influence my lines and ideas were jack schantz, kerry mackillop, jeff Uusitalo, roland paulouci, and a bunch of other cleveland ohio cats. my bias for melodies and hip lines and intervale relationships over patterns and cliches have really shaped my lines and musical tendencies over the last 5 years or so.In short, my influences have created a mutt, but I'm comfortable with it.
Sounds Like: as others like to believe about their individual sound and style, I like to think I sound only like myself. I'm not objective--------------I can't tell, and it really doesn't matter I guess.
