THE GALEEJ GURUS

About Me

The Galeej Gurus are a band that believes in exploring music and also to have as much fun as possible doing it. We have been on the circuit since 2000, played over 450 gigs around the country and can boast a sizeable fan following. After over seven years of touring and performing, The Galeej Gurus are working towards the release of their debut album in 2008. The band is also currently working out a tour in parts of China and Korea.

CONCERTS In 2006 The Galeej Gurus opened for Classic rock legends –Deep Purple – in Bangalore for a crowd of 15,000. They also played alongside The Rasmus in 2005, and were part of the warm up concerts leading up to Bryan Adams’ concert in 2004. The Galeej Gurus were the headlining act for the most popular national talent search competition in India – The Campus Rock Idols, South Zone – in 2006 & 2007. The band’s latest accomplishment is being selected to represent India at Shamal’08 – Dubai – possibly opening up a chance to play at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival in March 2008.
THE MUSIC The band’s music has been classified by critics as Indie, along with a host of other genres such as Progressive Rock, Funk, and Blues-Rock. In the music of The Galeej Gurus, one can see such diverse influences as Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai and Deep Purple in Galeej music. Originals: The band’s acclaimed originals include such popular numbers as Full Meals by the Wayside, High Above, Better When Blown, Make Some Noise, She’s Mine, Physiological Breakdown, and several others.
THE BAND MEMBERSNathan Harris
The voice of the band, Nathan was The Galeej Gurus’ original drummer. After juggling between the sticks and his vocal chords for nearly six years, he is now the band’s frontman. He has proven his worth as a good showman and has crowds delighted with his wacky, witty and wild showmanship on stage.
Matthew Harris
Nathan’s twin and thoroughly experimental bassist, Matthew has been teasing the lower octaves for around 10 years now, and is the backbone of the band. Being a fan of modern guitar funk, most of the Galeej riffs and runs originate from him and his constant concern is finding new ways to present Galeej compositions.
Ananth Menon
Along with Nathan and Matthew, Ananth is the band’s third founding member. He has been playing the six strings for more than 8 years, and is particularly fascinated with the blues. He enjoys all sorts of music, and has even been involved with commercial cinema music briefly.
Naveen Thomas
Generally acknowledged as the most technically proficient and savvy musician in the band, Naveen has played with the popular Chennai band Molotov Cocktail and Bangalore- based Parousia. He has a reputation as one of the finest guitarists in Bangalore city.
Kishan Balaji
Kishan is influenced by a wide range of music and he particularly appreciates the idea of “free style improvisation.” He is also the drummer for the popular bands Caesar's Palace, Bhoomi, and Extinct Reflections. His jazz influences play a big role in his technique on the skins.
THE MUSIC The Galeej Gurus have always been known for their magical mix of originals and cover songs in their set list at shows. There’s always a healthy mix of originals and cover songs from Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Velvet Revolver, The Black Crowes, Eric Clapton, Bo Bice, Lenny Kravitz, Joe Satriani, G‘n’R, Deep Purple and lots more.
