Born on 16 January 1964 , Richard was first influenced in his young years by 1960’s rock, by King Elvis Presley in particular, often singing for friends and at parties. In 1981, he meets and befriends unknown at the time guitarist Serge Krief who will act as teacher and leader of the group in which Richard was rhythm guitarist.
Richard listened to and learned from jazz greats, such as Django Reinhardt , Wes Montgomery , George Benson , Charlie Parker and many others. For nearly 20 years, he both acted as accompanist and manager for Serge Krief. He played alongside many celebrities such as French virtuoso guitarist Bireli Lagrene, Joe Turner, George Benson and Django’s first-born son and renowned gypsy guitarist himself, Babik Reinhardt. He has played major international festivals and clubs around the world and he appears regurlarly on several French television shows.
In 1991 , he and his long-time partners Serge Krief and Thierry Colson (on bass) played the very select Grande Parade du Jazz at the International Nice Jazz Festival on the French Riviera, sharing the stage with Miles Davis sideman and saxophonist Bill Evans and world-class guitarist John McLaughlin and his trio.
In November of 1999 , Richard played with violinist Charles Wizen in Canada and a CD was released under the name of Swing 39 (J.A.C Records).
July 2002 was busy: He played the Half-Note Club in Athens, did the Vienne Jazz Festival with the Bir..li Lagr..ne Trio and last but not least produced Serge Krief’s Acid-Bop Project, featured as special guest for Al Jarreau at the International Utah Jazz Festival that also presented artists such as Nathalie Cole, Phil Woods, Jesse Cook Alchemy, Rick Brown and Regina Carter.
But the big turn in Richard’s career was in July 1998 where after having seen George Benson live in Paris , he is invited by the artist to join him to the Antibes and Hamburg jazz festivals.
In the summer 1999 , the Boss of guitar himself introduced Serge Krief and Richard’s performance at the Blue Note in New York , and the critics were highly enthusiastic. Since that day, a strong and respectful friendship has developed between Richard and his idol and they have remained in close touch since then.
In 2003 , Richard cultivated his writing and composing talents in various musical fields. With Frederic Bouskila, he created Flood Records with the project of bringing together international vocals stars. He also performs as crooning singer Aaron Richards at private events and in nightclubs in the spirit of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett or George Benson.
As of today in 2007, many projects are in development. Please stay tuned!
