About Me

Born 12 of August, 1966, in Ottawa Ont., Gavin's love for music and drumming began at a very early age. From the age of 6 months, he was pulling pots and pans from the cupboard, assembling them into a makeshift drumset and pounding away for hours. When he was only 8 years old, he landed his first professional gig. Approached by the lead percussionist of the Ice Capades, Gavin was asked to open the show with a Timpani roll in front of an audience of over 4000 people. He was paid the handsome sum of $6.00 C.A.D. Continuing his rhythmic pursuits, Gavin studied with local teachers and labored through endless hours of personal practice. At age 12, he was playing with musicians twice his age and creating a buzz on the local scene.Moving to Calgary in 1979, Gavin continued his private tutelage, private practice and performing live in local bands. He went on to study in New Orleans with Ray Fransen and then onto Berkley to study with John Ramsay. Being committed to excellence in every facet of his musical endeavors has helped Gavin establish his 15 year professional career. Throughout Gavin's career, he has had the opportunity to work with a variety of International artists. These include Bobby Arvon (Harry James Orchestra), Susan Anton, Howard McCrary (Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson), The Platters, The Drifters, and The Coasters. He has traveled extensively in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe and has recorded in excess of 100 albums. Over the past 2 years, Gavin has produced and arranged several projects for various artists. One such artist he recently produced a Jazz album for, accepted an invitation to perform at both Carnegie Hall and The White House in December of 2006. Gavin currently resides in Calgary, Alberta and continues an active recording, producing, touring and teaching schedule.
