About Me
CRASH MARTINEZ BAND BIOGRAPHY. . ."PEDRO MARTINEZ": LEAD GUITAR, LEAD and BACKUP VOCALS, LYRICS.
Peter became a fan of punk during his years at Covenant College, after discovering at an MxPx show that punk is rock & roll in its purest form - he still can't get enough of MxPx, the Ramones, the Clash, the Bouncing Souls, the Offspring, Social Distortion, etc. - and his songwriting took a turn in that direction. Over the past few years, Peter has written almost two hundred songs."DAVICITO MARTINEZ": LEAD and BACKUP VOCALS, LYRICS
When Peter returned to Syracuse from college in 2003, he introduced his brother Dave to this world of fast, loud, melodic rock. Dave immediately took a liking to MxPx, Bowling for Soup, Relient K, and Weezer. He began to join Peter in songwriting and producing home-made demos. It was reminiscent of years gone by, when the two of them used to sing songs in harmony together to pass the summer days when they were kids.LIVE MUSIC
After recording hundreds of songs using a drum machine, Peter and Dave finally began performing their songs at open mics in January 2005, and by the summer of that year they were routinely booking gigs with just the two of them singing in harmony, with Peter's accoustic guitar for accompaniment. The audiences were always impressed with the catchy melodies and the intelligent songwriting. Still, Peter and David were anxious for a chance to add a bassist and drummer to the show and really start rocking out."MIKE MARTINEZ": BASS GUITAR
Although Peter has played bass on all Crash Martinez recordings to date, the band needed a bassist for live shows. They were going through one bassist after another looking for someone who was both musically capable and personally reliable. In January 2006, their search led them all the way back home, to their brother Mike, who is an accomplished musician in many respects, and who himself had been getting into punk rock, particularly the Clash, the Ramones, Jimmy Eat World, and Green Day."CRAIG MARTINEZ": DRUMS
There have been a couple of drummers in the band’s past. In December 2005, they recruited a drummer named “Booch,†who helped Crash Martinez achieve the live sound they’d been looking for. However, due to school responsibilities and some musical differences, Booch and Crash Martinez parted ways on good terms in mid-2006. But it wasn’t long before another drummer came their way. His name is Craig, and he’s a great fit for this band: He has years of experience with various punk bands; he became a fan of Crash Martinez by downloading a number of their songs before he was chosen as the next drummer; and just like Peter and David, MxPx is, in Craig’s words, “without a doubt my favorite band and biggest musical influence.†His other influences include Slick Shoes, YellowCard, Ghoti Hook, Green Day, Blink 182 and Sugarcult. Craig’s first live performance with Crash Martinez was in November 2006.2007
Crash Martinez played a ton of shows in 2006, and there's no slowing down! Peter and David are constantly creating new material for the band, and Crash Martinez finally got into the studio in January 2007. The resulting 6-song professional demo is a sign of good things to come! The band will be touring the northeastern United States this winter, with shows planned from Cincinnati to Boston . The fan base is growing, the music scene in Syracuse is decidedly more punk than when they started, and the night is young! So just keep rocking out, and keep an eye out for Crash Martinez!
