"With the kind of melodic prowess that the likes of Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Emitt Rhodes, Badfinger, Queen, Styx and 10cc would be dead chuffed to possess, Stephens throws out strapping tunes and pleasing arrangements with deftness and intelligence that belies his relative anonymity...." read more...

Singer/songwriter Dave Stephens began his career at the age of seven, when, in the midst of a typical Fraser Valley childhood, he decided he wanted to be a rock singer. He took his first step into the world of music when he discovered his ability to play by ear, but took up guitar in his teens since, in his own words, "Stairway to Heaven" never sounded that great on my piano." Today, his thoughts, his life experiences and his passion ring true in his lyrics and melodies.
While growing up, his studies stirred in him an interest in theory, paving the way to composition classes and the fine-tuning of his songwriting skills. "I really liked bands that weren't afraid of doing different things," says Stephens. He caught as much live music as possible, learning along the way. "There was nothing like the buzz of a great band coming to town," recalls Stephens. "That's the kind of thing that I'd like to bring back. While I believe in the sparseness of a good, stripped down performance, as far as emotions go, I really enjoy the kind of show that goes all out."
Stephens winding journey of creating, performing and producing his first solo CD culminated with here we go..., a full length version of his 2001 EP - Sketches for: here we go... "I tried to pick a good cross section of styles," says Stephens of his debut album. "There's some Beatles-esque stuff, some ballads, and a little funky R&B. I've always wanted to be able to write in a variety of styles, but still create a cohesive product by producing the songs so that they are always unmistakably me. I've discovered that my music appeals to a pretty wide demographic. Young people like the melodic sensibilities of the songs, and older people feel nostalgic about them."
Most recently Dave's musical journey has relocated him from Vancouver to Long Beach, California where he's just completed his second release - Stories For Copper. The long anticipated album has been welcomed in the US with a foray of rave reviews. Stories For Copper is available on iTunes and at www.davestephens.ca

What People Are Saying:

“…what is most striking and makes this album hang around long after the lights are turned off is that Stephens knows his way around a song, taking his cues equally from McCartney, Lennon and Harrison and, principally, writing on piano. This songs would hold up if it they were just voice and piano, even though they are full embellished with instrumental attention. Delicious, slow yet soaring, yet simple melodies all over.” – Bruce Brodeen – Not Lame Recordings

"Stories For Copper" is a melodic and lyrically uplifting release that many Power Pop lovers will absolutely devour.” – Whitsbrain.com

“Dave Stephens doesn't just play music, he pours it through your speakers into your head. Each track tells a beautiful story, and it literally embraces you.” - Radio Arizona

“First-rate songs, heavenly harmonies, and an uncomplicated delivery make this one another winner!” – KoolKatMusik.com

“His writing style rivals that of big named musicians while still being able to hold his own and showcase a unique blend of raw emotion. If you're looking for something with a soft, classic vibe with that feel of musicians such as Billy Joel/Elton John/James Taylor/Paul McCartney then your going to like this material.”
– Shipwreck Island Studios
