Arts & Economic Prosperity III

Americans for the Arts is proud to announce the release of Arts & Economic Prosperity III , our third study of the nonprofit arts and culture industry’s impact on the nation’s economy. This new study is our largest ever, featuring findings from 156 study regions (116 cities and counties, 35 multicounty regions, and 5 states).

THE ARTS MEAN BUSINESS!
    America’s nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $166.2 billion in economic activity every year;$63.1 billion in spending by organizations and an additional $103.1 billion in event-related spending by audiences. The national impact of the economic activity from America’s nonprofit arts and culture industry supports 5.7 million jobs and generates $29.6 billion in government revenue. Between 2000 and 2005, the nonprofit arts and culture industry grew 24 percent, from $134 billion to $166.2 billion. Event related spending by the audiences of nonprofit arts and culture organizations boasts an even greater increase of 28 percent—from $80.8 billion in 2000 to $103.1 billion in 2005.
