I am an anthropologist. I am a grad student. I am an anomaly. I am not a sheep and you shouldn't be one either.
What the fuck is anthropology? Well, in simple layman's terms it's the "study of man" and all aspects of man's past, present, and future. I have focused mostly on socio-cultural anthropology and archaeology as part of my studies and I'm currently working on my own independent historical archaeology research project.
This all sounds pretty damn boring, doesn't it? I must sound like some prudish academic bitch, but really, I'm not, and you'll figure that one out the more you read my blogs . . .
And what are my blogs about? Well, I have seen a lot of things in my life thus far that others find interesting, and I look forward to sharing stories as well as delving into subject matters that sound interesting.
And . . .
I am probably the most unique individual you will ever come across, just to let you know. I have very diverse tastes and talents. I was raised on a cattle ranch, so I know my way around a horse and I know how to drive a tractor and go 4-xing. I also can cook up a culinary feast and sew and knit and all of that domestic Martha Stewart bullshit. But I am not a plain Mary Jane nor am I a tomboy -- I am as at home in boots and jeans out in the country as I am in heels and a designer gown in the city. I have lived on the east coast, the midwest and the west coast and traveled all over this continent (and soon the world!). I love great wine (sangiovese and syrah are my faves), sushi, Indian food, and trying out new beers. I also am a sports fan, an artist, a writer, a poet, an intellectual, and yeah, I'm one of the dumbest smart people that you could ever meet . . . Enough about me . . . I'm rambling on and on and it's doubtful that anyone will ever read this . . .

My Interests

"Wit is educated insolence."
-- Aristotle

I have . . .

Getting drunk with the natives.

Drinking fine Irish ales (i.e. Smithwick's, Guinness, Harp, Killians).

Making an ass out of myself.

Raising the smartest Border Collies that you've ever seen in your life.

Archery. Shooting. Riding horses. Rowing. Hiking. Farting around.

Sports. Mainly baseball (Texas Rangers) and football (Chicago Bears).

Traveling the world.

I'd like to meet:

I'm here to meet the most exciting, most intriguing, most unique and most eclectic individuals from around the globe. I also wouldn't mind meeting up with my soul mate.

I accept most friend requests as long as you're not trying to sell me something, spam me, or get me to do surveys.

And yes, I do have a lot of friends, but I am by no means a friend collector. I used to limit my amount of friends and then one day I asked myself: "Why?" This is a place for friends and you can never have too many friends!

Also . . . I delete any generic blog invites from people I don't know. I don't even bother reading these anymore. So don't waste your time by sending me one. That is a very impersonal way to invite someone to your blog. If you want me to read your blog -- start reading mine, commenting and getting to know me. Eventually I'll probably end up over at yours.

Cheers!
~Tanya~

Television:

I'm not a fan of TV and I try to avoid it all costs.

I find TV to be like a black hole that draws mindless morons into it's abyss of worthless entertainment.

But . . . you'll often find me glued to the tube if a Chicago Bears or Texas Rangers game is on or if I'm watching the news (also, if I'm in a hotel room with cable, I'll pretty much have that sucker on for the duration of my stay. So obviously, I'm a fucking hypocrite).
I've also gotten into House . . . yeah . . . I'm an addict now.

GO BEARS!!!

GO RANGERS!

GO CELTICS!

GO BULLDOGS!

Dan Brown
Anne Rice
J.K. Rowling
Anita Shreve
John Steinbeck
Margaret Mitchell
Ernest Hemingway
C.S. Lewis
Roald Dahl
Clive Cussler

Of course those are all authors of fiction, but why list a bunch of boring academic writers??

I also read my fair share of magazines (although they have been piling up more and more since I started reading blogs!) and I subscribe to:
In Style, Rolling Stone, The Week, Radar and Archaeology.

I also read these fascinating academic journals that tend to collect dust on my desk (yeah, I'm bad, I know):
American Anthropologist, Political and Legal Anthropology Review, and Cultural Anthropology.

Heroes:

All of our men and women in uniform.

And these punks:

Franz Boas.

Alfred Kroeber.

Bronislaw Malinowski.
