COAL MINERS DAUGHTER....SO BEAUTIFULLY REINACTEDOver 25 years ago, Loretta Lynn had a dream. Loretta’s dream was to open a new museum to allow her wonderful fans to come to her Tennessee Ranch and truly be able to experience not only her long career achievements, but more importantly, pure country music as a whole.Loretta’s beloved “Doolittle†built her a small one-room museum in the historic Grist Mill on their Ranch. However, it wasn’t long until room ran out. Her collection began to fill every nook and cranny all over the place until she could one day fulfill her dream. On May 25, 2002, the dream of “America’s Sweetheart†officially came true with the grand opening of her new 18,000 square foot, "Coal Miner’s Daughter Museum". People from all over the United States, including many of her close friends in the music industry, came to watch Loretta cut the ceremonial ribbon to welcome the world into her life. That warm spring day welcomed an endless line of fans, many whom had waited hours to be one of the first to experience the legend of the lady. The celebration was made even more special with the presence of close friends and family, such as George and Nancy Jones, Naomi Judd and husband Larry, Tanya Tucker, sisters Crystal Gayle and Peggy Sue, by Loretta’s side. Of course, Loretta’s children and extended family were there to lend their love and support. With Loretta’s best-selling autobiography and her Oscar-winning movie, Coal Miner’s Daughter, Loretta’s fans well know her “rags to riches†life story. Now, more than ever, they can experience her story in person! Most are delighted to leave their personal hand-written comments for Loretta to read, and the rave reviews have been phenomenal! The museum complex is dedicated, not only to husband Mooney, but to the thousands of fans that have been with Loretta throughout her 40+ year career. Loretta has had so much fun in all aspects of the Museum from the ground up. It isn’t unusual to catch her working on the displays, “trying to fit just one more thing in!†She loves to write and display her handwritten notes – a fan favorite of her first museum and now her new one. Fans have caught her there many, many times. “I’ve gotta be sure to comb my hair next time!â€, she has exclaimed to the surprised patrons who’ve caught her working there.Visiting this complex, you’ll see a complete history of her life, including displays honoring her family, home life, Ranch life and musical career. Awards fill every space, along with her gold records, personal photos, and mementos from rodeo days, USO tours, Olympic events and charity involvement. Glimpse inside detailed replicas of her first Nashville home with original furnishings and the little one-room schoolhouse she attended in the hills of Kentucky.Loretta’s two books and movie are well documented with everything from original manuscripts, publications, posters, photos and original costumes worn in the production. In the Mooney Lynn Pavilion, delighted fans are even able to step inside the original Coal Miner bus used by Loretta and seen in her movie. This wing houses Mooney’s Jeep, used by Tommy Lee Jones in filming. Loretta’s personal Cadillac and Mercedes, as well as Mooney’s 1964 Mack truck, sit along side their first Nashville bedroom suite, originally owned by the legendary Hank Williams.Costumes and personal belongings from Loretta’s friends fill one whole area of her Museum. You’ll get to see things from longtime country music legends to things from today’s country music superstars. Of course, a favorite is Loretta’s personal stage wardrobe throughout the years; some of which she made herself. The star of this collection is the original “Coal Miner’s Daughter†dress displayed on a wax likeness of the legend herself. You’ll get to see Loretta wear some of these on a special video shown in her Museum mini-theatre.In 2003, museum additions included clothing worn by Loretta on album covers and stage performances, her original handwritten lyrics to many of her hit songs, more memorabilia of family and entertainment friends, and a comprehensive collection of Loretta’s recordings from her first three Zero label singles all the way to her recent “Still Country†CD.The Museum’s extensive collection rivals any collection the world over. Though the 18,000 square foot structure is filled to capacity; only about half of Loretta’s things are displayed. A special climate-controlled vault houses her remaining archives. Also located in Loretta’s Museum complex is the Lady Loretta Boutique. Opened to be able to make her personal memorabilia available to the public and collectors, it's successful purpose is to support Museum operation. The Boutique will offer a vast selection of Loretta’s older albums this year for fans wanting to complete their own Loretta Lynn collection. Most items sold in the Boutique are personally signed by Loretta.Loretta and all her staff hope you’ll come by and stay a while. Say “Hello†to Gloria, Rosie, Ron and Reta. They are there to help answer the many questions posed by all who visit. The personal atmosphere is defined by one of her twin daughters’ statements; “I knew Mama kept everything, but she didn’t have to put it all out!†She was referring to displays of report cards and even a school suspension letter or two!Open April 1 through November 1, the Museum operates seven days a week, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
