Mostly mouth, some action, most of it as the presenter of BBC Radio Wales' new music show [dedicated to showcasing the best, new, Welsh artists]. I've been presenting a new music show for Radio Wales since October 1993. I don't want to overegg the pudding, but it's my lifeblood. I think it's better now than it's ever been: featuring regular contributions from Acid Casuals / Som Bom [a monthly techno mix], DJ Fuzzyfelt [our spy in the house of the Welsh language music scene] and Soundhog [manic music miner]. But I do miss the Minister For Cool Welsh Pop... :(

I also bend the rules of beatmatching every other Friday night as the resident DJ - and occasional promoter - at Telfords Warehouse, Chester . [next appearance, Friday 4th May]
As a promoter, I've been lucky enough to stick the likes of the Pipettes, the Automatic, Viva Machine, Soft-Hearted Scientists, 60ft Dolls, Coldplay, Mclusky, Derrero, Mohobishopi, Suns of Thunder, Camera, Crosbi, the Loves, Murry the Hump, the Hot Puppies, Glow, Akira the Don, Dirty Perfect, bravecaptain, Hotel Motel, the Spencer McGarry Season, Big Leaves, Topper, David Wrench, the Caves, Genod Droog, Weapons [of Mass Belief] and a few more whose names I've forgotten due to the eternal hangover. Each of these bands was brilliant and I THANK THEM PROFUSELY for bringing smart sounds and bright colour into my life!
On account of my mid-level geekiness, I present BBC Radio Wales' new technology show, Mousemat . It is diverting, informative and entertaining.
I'm moody, impassioned, opinionated, a lover rather than a fighter, a laxing pescatarian, loyal until the very bitter end, a jack of many trades but a master of none, a frustrated dancer, an insomniac, shy, a fawning dad, prone to crying at the denouement of Disney films, a Guinness drinker, a willpower-less smoker, a frustrated geek, a rambler, a walker, an enemy of city bound 4-wheel drive drivers, a Liverpool fan, a seeker of the finest, veggie chillis in the world, and - judging by the hirsuteness of my man suit - a good half-Spectacle bear.

My Interests

Good music in all of its shapes, shades, tastes and textures.

Photography with my Nikon D300. Check my pictures out here and please let me know what you think!

The Guitar. These days that means occasionally fluttering my fingers over the strings of my Classical Guitar but it used to mean a Les Paul or Rickenbacker and a very large Marshall stack. Which is why I have advanced tinnitus now.

English literature, and especially Children's literature.

BBC Radio Wales, Beth and Huw and 5Live [Simon Mayo, in particular], Hancock's Half Hour

Beer in Telfords Warehouse.

Splattering canvas with acrylic paints.
Fascinated by the fuzzy ground between philosophy, psychology and man's need to create and, believe in, myths.

the History of Science.

DJ'ing - seeking the ultimate, eclectic and yet inviting and danceable 6hr DJ set!

Computers. My new[ish] MacBook Pro and Mac Pro.

Retro computers, chiefly the Speccy and the BBC Model B. Website design using php scripting and MySQL database design.

Retro games like: Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner, Elite, Chuckie Egg, Sabre Wulf, Knightlore and loads of text adventure games [these days, apparently, called 'interactive fiction'] - especially Colossal Adventure, Snowball, Return to Eden, Twin Kindgom Valley.

Modern games like: Half Life 1 and 2 [when I had a PC], Civilization [2 and 4], Quake 2 - 4, Oolite

Mineralogy - specifically owt involving semi-precious gemstones, double specifically anything involving agates in their colourfully banded multifariousness.

Mexican, Italian and Thai food.

Jam doughnuts.

Writing fiction [short stories and poems]. I have finished a couple of longer works and I'm currently working on a story that has no monsters in it.

the Paranormal.

The web. Mainly blogs. Especially good ones like http://akirathedon.com

Getting my boots dirty on the highways and byways of North Wales and Chester.

Trying to be a good dad and husband. [clearly the most important]Growing herbs [legal ones]

The odd game of pool, 5-a-side, and a punishing [but lapsed] schedule of 20km every night on my exercise bike.

I'd like to meet:

Tolerant, musical people and people who want to buy prints of my photographs! [e-mail me and I will sort you out!]
